just like i said, since anime is normal over there, some may get that "eh" feeling, so seeing something like a Disney film would be something different. and technically there not "Disney" movies, there "Pixar" but there presented by Disney who also presented Spirited Away. and on that list are Pixar movies(cept Shrek) which each have a unique story line compared to Disneys films which are mostly based off other already thought up stories.

That goes back to the very beginning of anime:KagomeSakuraMoon wrote:Hmm,the Japanese sure do like Disney stuff.
The Anime Encyclopedia wrote:Heralded by many as the "God of Manga," Tezuka Osamu was one of Japan's most cherished and prolific manga and anime artists. He has been described as the "Japanese Walt Disney," despite his reported disdain for the company. He, perhaps more than any other artist, was responsible for the very characteristic "puppy-dog eyes" which has become a trademark of Japanese animation, though he later admitted being heavily influenced by the works of Walt Disney -- in particular, Bambi.

It may have something to do with the lack of pervasiveness of certian things in each society. Non-perverted comedy is a lot more prevalent in Disney releases than in Anime while "thought-inducing" content is a lot more prevalent in Anime than in Disney works. If one isn't used to something, they may have a greater desire to experence it. It's the same as Alchohol consumption in most of Europe (excluding scandinavian countries that have their own problems). Children drink so they don't find it that special and don't abuse it, yet in America people yearn to get wasted once they hit a certain age. The yerning for something diferent than the fare they're used to is what sells.
It also dosn't hurt that a large portion of Japanese youth think American stuff is the trendy thing right now.
