What ruins amv, no story or subtitled footage?

Post by Flame-X » Wed Jan 04, 2006 2:45 pm

Let's all have a poll. Which of the two ruins the amv? subtitled footage or no story(random scenes)?

For me, I choose subtitled footage. Subtitles tend to take away our fun watching amvs to the fullest. There's no need for story in amvs as long as there's a theme or just good beat syncing. 8-)

Subtitles. A video can still be damn good without a story.

Subtitles sometimes bother me, but if the video is good enough, I can usually look past it. As for a story, I like a good pointless action video, so I don't mind if a story is lacking as long as the editing works. Although if you want to mention random scenes, the thing that ruins an AMV for me most is when the editing completely ignores the music. It could be some strong beats that the editing didn't sync with, scenes with an inappropriate mood (fast paced scenes during a slower part of the music, or vice versa), or lyrics that would have been perfect to match with an actual clip from the video source but just showed something random instead.
Final Doom "Amazing things will happen here soon."

Neon Genesis Evangelion: Substance "Everyone knows that it's a dangerous substance."

I think rather than no story, what's dangerous is no concept.

The latter usually goes hand-in-hand with subtitles anyway.

Does this have to be an either or situation? Besides there are plenty of things that kill a perfectly good video otherwise for me.

Gotta say, one of my all time favouritve videos make so sense at all... and is one of the most random videos ever... but then again my second fav has subtitles...

All in all though... subtitles scream lazyness like said earlier, that and maybe even illegal footage... so my vote goes to subs :x
