Music that would be perfect to use if you could edit it.
Been a while since I've been here so I'll make a typical forum mistake and post a new topic instead of just easing back by posting in another. Heh.
For some reason I instantly thought "Fullmetal Alchemist" when I first heard "When I'm gone" by Eminem, and I normally never find rap to be a good pick for a vid. If only you could edit a few lines and change names, it'd be disturbingly fitting.
Lyrics here. Mind the potential popups, I use AdBlock so I tend not to get any.
This kind of thing happens to me a lot, which is why I hardly ever end up making any videos (no I haven't uploaded any here, I don't feel like embarassing myself THAT bad). You hear a great song, then it uses specific names or a single line that wouldn't make a lick of sense in a vid, argh.

if the names are an issue make it anyways...
and you can always cut the line if it doesnt fit.. I know several editorers do that sort of thing
and people need to drop the steryotype that only "rock" makes for good AMVs.. people can use what ever genre they want... I found a person the other day that had maybe 2 pop singers and all the rest was COUNTRY! people should make what they want and not fall into the trap of trying to impress others, if the editorer is good enough they can do ANY genre

I usually cut the music in my AMVs because I don't think that AMVs should be too long.
As far as only using rock, no. That would be way too limiting.
Although some of my AMVs are pop songs I enjoy using more unusual music. Check out Sora's Deep Dream, or my latest, Life is Pain, for examples of unusual scores.

Pray 4 peace! Not an AMV, something you can do to help!

Sir, any genre of music can work well in an AMV including rap/hip-hop and country. There's even a thread dedicated to rap/hip-hop in the Recommendation forum.
The main reason why people say that a certain genre doesn't work well is because they dislike/hate it, can't picture it workingat all, can't picture it working for their own work, or they're too closed minded.

I don't see a lot of klezmer AMVs.megaman917 wrote:The main reason why people say that a certain genre doesn't work well is because they dislike/hate it, can't picture it workingat all, can't picture it working for their own work, or they're too closed minded.
Really, if you think about it, this issue is a demographics one. People tend to make videos using the music they listen to.
As for the original topic of this thread, I have a simple solution: edit the song already. I've done it, it just takes some patience and some effort.

Well, some genres work better than others due to the general nature and subject matter of the lyrics. Ditto on artists. Eminem is tough to use since he's a story teller in his best stuff, and it's all pretty much nothing but talking about specific people and events. Kinda tough to tie that into a narrative of an anime.
The reason why a lot of metal and rock end up in vids outside of the sheer popularity of the song is that a lot of rock and metal typically express a feeling or idea in a vague enough way that it can easily be paralleled to a character (hello to the 6 kabillion Linkin' Park vids).
That, and both genres tend to fit better with action due to their sound.

Wow. Good luck on that. Em's lines in that one go on and on and on.When I'm Gone is a great song. It's just too godamn difficult. I'm trying to do a lip sync to it and it's the hardest thing I've ever done.

I tend to not focus on just one genre of music but since i hate rap i wont do rap. Yeah ive done more than one hard rock amv but thats because i have more than enough of my share of hard rock songs on my hd.
I say if you like rap and found a good song, go for it. I just hope you do the song justice for those out there that actually do like it.
