Thanks for the reminder, if it wasn't for it i would have missed it all, by the time i saw this thread i missed half of Spirited Away. Personally i think Metropolis would be a good choice since its based off the really old classic manga

littlekohitsuji wrote:There was a post about it on animenewsnetwork.com, but just in case some of you missed it, Turner Classic Movies will be playing Studio Ghibli films all January in celebration of Hayao Miyazaki's 65th birthday. Starting at 8pm and replaying after the second *or third* movie ends, here's the schedule.

The first play of the movies will be dubbed, with the second in subtitles, a little bird told me.

Jan 5:
- Spirited Away
- Princess Mononoke

Jan 12:

- Laputa: Castle in the Sky

Jan 19:
- My Neighbor Totoro
- Porco Rosso
- Whisper of the Heart

Jan 26:

- Pom Poko

Revel in the Miyazaki gold! :)

Damint How many times do you need to be told?
What was the point of quoting that whole calender?
Well??!
Look you could just say those are some amazing movies, and you love them.
Or if you were me you could say thank god you have them on tape cause you love them all. 'Although you will have to visit a friends house on teh 19th, cause I've never seen whisper of the heart and I really want to.

Explain Shanko - why does Disney have such a tight grasp? I'd think they'd be hanging on tighter to Spirited Away :?

Well...the Disney thing was a joke....Buuuttt, if you want a comparison.

Spirited Away.
The way her parents ate that food, but it did look tasty.
Being forced to work at a bath house so your pig parents aren't eaten.
The prejudice towards Sen from all the demons in the beginning.
Has a very rough start, gets no support from anyone except No-Face.
Realizes how F'd up things are and cries which was pretty sad.
A dragon bleeding all over the place.
No-Face eating 3 people.
No-Face barfing up 3 people and all that food while running.
No-Face barfing all over Ubaba.
Ubaba's sister threatened to rip off Sen's mouth if she said anything.
Ubaba's baby threatening to break Sen's arm if she didn't play with him.
That river god that looked and smelled like a big pile of shit.
From the way it looks compared to the other Disney movies shown, it'd probably win over the children more than the Proud Family movie.

Kiki's Delivery Service.
A cute litttle witch with a big red bow in her hair.
Her talkative black cat.
A nice little river side town to start her training.
Nice couple who own a bakery give her a quaint little room to live in.
Meets the locals and makes some friends.
Has a few troubles and loses her powers.
Rolls down a hill and breaks her broom.
Comes through in the end, bounces off a few buildings and saves her friend.

I doubt you'll see SA on the Disney channel anytime soon.

Perhaps not, but then I was tramatized for life after Bambi's mother died. And don't get me started on the Snow-White's Flight ride in Disney World.

Ah sorry Shanko - Disney is such a bastard about copyrights and whatnot I wouldn't be surprised if they had some B.S. legal hold on it.
