Ok, after some thinking and such, I give you: MORE CORN!!! ... uhm, I mean IDEAS! (Note: AMV Hell 0 really scares me. And yet it introduced me to Dokuro-chan. For that I am forever grateful *bows*)
So I've basically been told to run with this, but having no editing skillz myself I'm not exactly sure what all we'll need. The goal is to create something that's anywhere from 6-8 hrs long that can be projected onto walls and make people want to dance and scream and be happy and energized. Therefore the prevalent musical genre should be techno o'course, but any club remixes of songs could fit in, and maybe one disco tune just to be amusing. Anything upbeat could really work, from pop to rock to rap to country as well as techno, but I'd like the focus to be mostly techno so we don't scare people too far away. We want to scare them just enough that they'll stay for more ^_^
I'd rather shy away from already-made AMVs, just cause this should be something people have never seen before, but if we need more for time then they could be tossed in. I think it's prolly best if everyone works together so we can smooth out the tranisitions between songs to make it really professional and fun. That'd be better than crossfading or just carrying the beat through, I think.
I'll have to preview everything o'course, just to make sure it fits and such. And remember, it's a dance, so the prevaling theme should be fun. Keep it PG-13 or so and all should be good.
Thoughts?
Edit: Oh yeah, and the con itself is the weekend of April 1st, so we should prolly try to have this done by say mid-March.

6-8 hours? I'm assuming that you are planning on a loop, then... Or at least I hope you are... Even at 5:00 per track, a 3 hour loop would involve 36 or so videos.
As far as music goes, since you know the target audience, and how you'd like to mix it together, what if you come up with a playlist or mix, and the editors can select the tracks they would like to edit to. If someone comes up with a selection that isn't on your list, then you can review the song and place it into your list at your discretion.
That would also keep you from having duplicate songs/anime selections.
Just my 2 cents.

A loop could be done if necessary, but it'd be much cooler to have them all be unique. Seeing as the average techno song tends to be longer than most other songs (usually from 7-15 mins), it's not quite as farfetched as it may seem (although it really is out there).
I can definately come up with some song suggestions, and even some song/anime combos if you'd all like. In fact, that's prolly a good idea. I'll compile some form of list and get back to you, prolly tomorrow. Meanwhile, keep the thoughtstream open ^_^

"Miracle" doesn't begin to describe it. There's no way that's going to happen. (A one-hour DDR mix took how long to make ?!?)FoxJones wrote:Sorry to say this but I think you are biting more than you can chew. Getting 6-8h worth of new techno-AMVs in less than 4 months.. requires a miracle.
I'd suggest talking to the crew who put together the two Reflections of Style projects. These are already done and use electronic music.
Or maybe contact someone at Sakura-Con where they do something similar to this (it's called "Cyberia" or something like that). I believe they play already-made dance videos from a collection, and they may not even fade them (no mixing).

You can also post in the General AMV forum to request blanket permission like 808-buma did for the Japanese Festival he just helped out with.
Getting a few new videos created just for your event would be great, but 6-8 hour's worth in such a short time would be an Herculean effort.

The only way it would be possible is if we had A LOT of editors working on it. Which I really don't see happening. Prolly should've posted this idea to the forums when I first came up with it back in like October, but I didn't have the go-ahead at that time.
So a good number of old AMVs can definately be added.
How much original material do you think is plausable? An hour? Two?
As far as the songs, I compiled a list of all the upbeat stuff on my computer and came up with a few things:
Anything from DDR
Most 80's pop and techno
Most techno, esp. trance and happy hardcore. Anywhere from Freezepop to Daft Punk to ATC to Sash to Oakenfold and beyond.
Upbeat things on the edge that I would like to see a few things of are punk rock stuff like Offspring and pop stuff like Black Eyed Peas. Basically if you could hear it at a rollerrink it'd prolly fit.
I tried exporting the songlist from iTunes, but it didn't come out very good (couldn't limit the number of columns...). Some highlights for ideas:
Ace of Bass - Tokyo Girl
Beck - Bad Cartridge (E-Pro Mix)
Darude - Sandstorm
DJ Mangoo - The Melody
DJ Sammy - Heaven
DJs@Work - Someday
Eiffel 65 - Blue (Da Ba Dee)
Freezepop - Stakeout
LEN - Kids in America
Sarina Paris - Look at Us
Sash - Together Again
Sonic Arcade - King of the Ring
t.A.T.u. - Ja Sosla S Uma (D.S. Ram Drum'n'Bass Mix)
Ayumi Hamasaki - Evolution (Time is Pop Mix)
And anything like that really. Thoughts?
