Another subtitle update.

I've set the subtitles up as a Sub Station Alpha file. The two sets of lyrics have two different fonts used for them. The Finnish lyrics use Aramis Italic, the English use Avalon Quest. The only input I need now is whether the size is better large or small (I prefer the small, myself, but I dunno so I figured it was better to ask).

Considering that there's a lot going on in the background I vote for large fonts.

I have to agree with fox on this, the large font would be easier
to read.

Here's a dumb question in virtual dub how would I apply the
ssa file to hard burn the credits into the ending huffy.

BTW Inthesto, I sent you the FTP stuff.. Sorry about being dumb and
missing your message the first time..

To answer the question, there's a subtitler filter that Avery Lee created that's available on the main VirtualDub site: http://www.virtualdub.org/virtualdub_filters

However, this is why I offered to do the encoding. 1) The subtitles are timed to a 23.976 frame speed (and aren't calibrated for a short file, they're set to start at 14:33), and 2) it's possible to hardcode them using AVISynth when doing the final encode to XviD with a simple TextSub() command, instead of running the entire thing through VirtualDub and cluttering up more hard drive space.

You'd have a couple of options: export the final Huffy after setting up the transitions and whatnot, and then use Rapidshare to send me the file so I can do the encoding, or alternately send all the project files so that I would be able to clean up any segments that need it without adversely affecting other segments (you could also send me the individual huffys, I could clean them and send them back, and then send me the final export after it's been compiled).

Not to mention that I'd recommend hardcoding the subtitles for only the XviD release, if you're planning on a DVD release they'd be better softsubbed (although I'm not quite sure how easily that's done; when I tried doing softsubs for the DVD I made up for the FMA movie, it ended up being horribly off-sync, even though the timecodes were all correct), and the same would go for an H264 MKV file (which would be smaller than the XviD release, and the ability for the subtitles to play back correctly would be left up to processor strength and the memory of the computer).

I'll export the final Huffy after setting up the transitions but I'll use
the FTP to move that monster huffy. Then you can encode or recode to your heart content . Basically, I'll piece it together and you'll get the final encode since your way smarter at encoding then I am... Should I bother to deinterlace the big one or just send as is, after Adobe Premier stops having a heart attack.

Why would you need to deinterlace? That's what I meant about me cleaning the files, then you putting it together and exporting, and then me getting the final export to encode with. I'd make sure all the segments are clean before you compile them, so that I don't have to apply filters to clean one or more segment across the whole final export, since that might make other segments look bad. I wouldn't be changing the speed or framerate of the segments, so it would be totally possible to switch out the old ones for the new ones as long as they have the same name. They'd just look better, and should be easier to compress in the long run.

As for the final, just make sure Premiere is set not to deinterlace when under 100% (use the highlight tool to select all the segments, then go to Clip->Video Options->Field Options and uncheck the deinterlace box), and that you export at 23.98fps like the specs you put on the first page say.

Rodger.. After I do that , you'll do the subtitling :)
So, just proceed as normal and use the end settings you talked
about that shouldn't be too difficult.
