HELP..ASAP...WIN2k, Premiere, DIVx codec problem....

Post by enrage » Fri Jul 12, 2002 8:58 pm

ok, here's the situation. I just formatted my pc and installed win2k pro. Installed all the necessary codecs(the best to my knowledge) and then installed Adobe Premiere 6.
Now i tried starting a new project and when i tried importing a video file that is was ripped using Divx4 codec will not load at all. Now this never happened before when i was using ME. I get the following message when i try to import my divx avi file.

Unable to open file.
File uses an unsupported compression format.

If anyone can assist please reply.
Thanks.

Don't import Divx files into premiere. Don't even try to.

The infamous question......

does it work in virtualdub????

If not then you have codec issues, re-install divx.
if yes, then re-install premiere..

if it fails to work, kill yourself.

You still need to get all the codecs. Try www.doom9.org. I'm sure they got a link or try the divx-communities. Divx people tend to have a million unknown codecs at their disposal.

Good luck

Do what klinky said: Open it in vDub. It'll give you some clues (FourCC, directshow, those things...)

Got it working finally! :D
I downloaded the nimo codec. Removed Premiere and all my divx codecs. The first time installed the nimo codec, i chose Basic. Installed Premiere. ANd it did not work.
so i remove the nimo codec and premiere. Installed Premiere and the nimo codec. this time i chose Full installation instead of Basic. I have no idea what codec that was in the Full that made it work compared to Basic but hey it works now.
Thanks for the replies
