Ignorance amazes me...
What ignorance? I'm similar. I hate most rap because it's useless, repetitive, and is always talking about sex and girls! > <

But Eminem is different. His music has to do with life and family, even if it is the bad sides, and usually of other things. Not saying i like all of his either, but still. Oh, and some of his are funny too.^^ (his is one of the VERY few that doesn't annoy me into a headache too..)
Well if thats true, then it would be safe that rock is useless, reptitive, and is always talking about sex and girls! ><

You would disagree because you know rock but you wouldnt say that they dont (double negative, yeah I know) talk about sex and girls at times. This is just simple case of you not knowing what you're talking about. aka...ignorance

Eminem is not different, he's just white. (i'm being honest here. sorry if I'm being too foward but i love emenim and i love white people so dont get all offended.)
EX:"Never was a gangster, just infactuated with guns/ Never was a thug untill I graduated to one"-Soilder=Emenim Show
To say that he's different is just plane ignorance, but I'll let you explain.
TIP: with out examples, you have no argument

Now, for some of the many rappers that are truely different...and some of their interesting subject matter:
KRS-One: rapped about not eating red meat
MF Doom: The guy runs around with a Doom mask on at all time. Did an album with Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. Made a hillarious song entitled "Vats of Urine" where he recites the many uses of you-know-what
MC Chris: Talks about being a loser. Made a popular song about Boba Fett from Star Wars
Tupac Shakur: rapped about how a young girl's child effects the whole community. she eventually throws it in a dumster. Tupac is also Emenims idol.
Nas: Rapped a whole day in reverse. EX: "He gets up off his knees/sceaming 'Shoot dont please!"
Common: My fav rapper. EX: "I was rolling around in my mind, and it occured,/'What if God was a her?'"
Mike Shinoda (from linkin park): Rapped about his familey being forced out their homes along with other Asian Americans and being forced in a US camp after Pearl Habor.

Thats it for now, check them out if you dont want sound ignorant. Turn the radio off and search for music on your own. Dont let some guy in a suit tell you what rap is.

oooo and check out Dell the Automator (I think I said it wrong, he's the rapper from Gorillaz) Roots, and Jedi Mind Tricks.

Unless you enjoy being ignorant.

It's Del tha Funkee Homosapien; Dan "the Automator" Nakamura is a producer behind Handsome Boy Modelling School who has worked with Del on the Deltron 3030 project.
Just thought I'd throw that in.

KRS-One is great. I can get behind some rap (not the crunk stuff, it's just not my scene) but when the artist is addressing social issues it actually gets really interesting. KRS-One is a pretty powerful voice of the black consciousness, it's really too bad he gets overlooked so much.

I have been gone for a while (hospital stay), didn't know this conversation had gotten so lively.

I must agree with Koyashed, at least with his assessment of the variety of rap music that is not really talked about, seen, or promoted.

There are plenty of hip-hop (which is a culture, rap is the music for the culture) artists that more people would appreciate and like. It takes a little more digging and not relying on MTV and definately not BET (which makes black people to look soooooooooo stereotypical). I'm black so I can say that with some authenticity.

Now for the Em thing that Yunacat brought up. It is good that you are a fan of Em, but as quoted by Koyashed, Em is no more an artists that talks about violence and women than any other. You probably like Em cause you can relate to him, which is the whole point. I can take nothing away from Em for his lyrical dexterity, but I can't relate to him too much, except for being poor. This has nothing to do with race (well maybe a little but not much), and more to do with shared experiences. Em being white is nonconsequential, hell one of my favorite rap artist is white (Haystak, look em up). The reason why I like him so much is that I share more experiences with him (and Paul Wall for that matter).

The point of this is to say, do a little research, open your mind, and experiement with music. Don't indict an entire genre of music when you do not know the scope of that music. I tell my folks that all the time, especially when they ask me why I listen to whatever it is I listen to.

Actually, been tinkering with using two of his songs for vids ('Fett's Vette' using Char from Mobile Suit Gundam, and I've got a half-complete FLCL vid using 'White Kids Love Hip-Hop')

I like some rap and hip hop as long as it doesn't get too intense....if you know what I mean. One song that I'm really stuck on right now is Shake by Pitbull and the Ying Yang Twins, (I think they are featured in it) I'd love to see a vid to that song!:D

They're not up just yet (temporarily shelved them for my AnimeBoston entry...would have liked to use the FLCL vid there, but given some of the lyrics in the song, that'd prob. screw it for me.)

After this current project's done, I'll see about finishing that and getting it online (...should be worth it if, for nothing else, the idea of Naota as voiced by Andy Merill.)

It's Ying Yang Twins featuring Pitbull

The original is in the Ying Yang Twins' album, the remix is on Pitbull's album.
