Was this all just one large pretense for pimping your video? O_oamvwizard wrote:i don't get it.... mine don't take long at all it might be that i rush or something i don't know someone download this video of mine and tell me if it seems rushed

anyway... it doesn't matter how long it takes to make a video. if you have a clear idea and know where all your scenes are, then you should finish it pretty fast. this also assumes the song is short enough and your concpet isn't complex. any change in those factors can increase the amount of time it takes to finish a video.

On average, between 3.5 - 5 hours per minute of straight editing of video for more basic, individual affairs. If there's beta feedback and nitpicking... well, that projeKct life track of under 2 minutes took me a good 20-something hours of work
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

For any given video, it's about 10 - 12 hours editing time only(I've never actually timed starting at the ripping process and ending witht he finished product - just editing).
I ran an expirement for a while where I had a pocket calendar thing, and I would name what video I worked on and for how long until the video was done(editing-wise). About three videos later, I got tired of keeping track, but essentially, 2/3 times it was ten hours while one of the other ones was 12. I'm giving myself up to 15 since this timing thing was about a year and a half or so a go.
Now, those ten hours spread out over about two months. People don't sit down and work on an AMV that day until it's finished(if they're sane anyway) unless it's somesort of Iron Chef.
Normally people work on and off 1 -3 hours a day and skip some days in between. I think working a little on a video each day (say 1 hour) over a long span of time (say every other day... About 3 weeks) would work better than doing it in one big leap.
Of course, with the more popular names around here... Things can sit on their desktop for weeks at a time while they work on another project, or just stare at the icon and don't do anything, which is why people say it took "years" to finish the video.
I mean, technically, I'm still working on videos that are about 3 years old - but really, I've only spent about 5 hours editing them or less. =)

It seems that I'm insane. I tend to edit for stretches of 6-10 hours at a time. There have been a few instances where it takes two or three days to get everything perfect, but I'm still editing for 6-10 hours straight on those days.SQ wrote:People don't sit down and work on an AMV that day until it's finished(if they're sane anyway)

Not to be rude - but don't you have a job or go to school?
That's why most people don't edit for that long at a time.

That's what the weekends are for!SQ wrote:Not to be rude - but don't you have a job or go to school?

When I was in college I had weekends, and now that I'm out and working I still have weekends. Heck, even when I was working weird hours, I still had two days off every ten days. It's fairly common for me to put in 48hr stretches on the days off so long as I can lock my door and unplug the phone without anyone thinking I died or went missing. ^_^
That's my favorite way to edit, dive in and don't come up for air until I have to. I worked on my longest project for months doing huge marathons every free day I had. If not, it would have taken me over a year, easy.
