I don't like it at all. If you look on some channels, some anime is starting to be common. Soon, anime may become a trend, probably.
"sigh...." I hate when people mention the word mainstream. The dictionary definition for that word should be WHO GIVES!!

I actual like when stuff become mainstream so I don't have to buy my Bleach wallet or Konoha headband oversees. Btw, my friend bought me one of those headbands at her favorite stores, Hot Topic. It's just gives us easier access to things "at least legally..."

I think underground and mainstream are just a crock invented by people who wanted to be cool. For example
"Linkin Park was great until they became main stream! When they were underground they rocked. But now their sell outs."

If anime became "Main stream" then I would get to see a good amount of animes.

This probably isnt the same thing, but the problem with it becoming main stream on TV is that groups like 4kids sees anime as a huge investment, so they go an liscence as much as they can and then butcher it over here, whereas another liscensing group like ADV coulda picked it up before and, well, not completely change it. But then, Robotech.
Another problem that may not be the same thing is the merchandising over here. I went to four cons last year (Katsu, Ota, Neko, and USA) and three of the fours delaers rooms were basiclly giant suncoasts, as years before they had a lot of everything unheard and heard of. It's like now they know whats hot on TV and then that's ALL they'll sell. Last year was nothing but One Piece and Naruto, but years before you could pick up Di Gi Charat or Corrector Yui stuff. Now tracking a Rabi en Rose doll is near impossible cus the Suncoast crowd don't know what it is (but it's there for 29.99).
End of rant

Cus it's good. And you like good.

How exactly is buying things from another country on the internet illegal? We're not talking about organs, drugs, explosives, or doing business with countries that have trade embargos...

No no dude, it's that alot of people download subs and even dubs and stuff. When the anime becomes mainstream it causes more licensing meaning less availability to download it which is basically illegal.

I hate to be the old aunt once again, but: once you pass 25, all of this angsting over what's popular will seem, well, not as serious as it seems now. Whether you're Very Very Proud of being non-mainstream or Very Very Proud of Not Caring At All, Really, just... no.

I can walk to the bookstore and buy manga. And rent anime online. This beats the hell out of trying to find the half-dozen tapes Sam Goody bothered to keep in stock. (And it was always the same. VHD and Akira.) And I'm not even an old-schooler! I came to this whole thing rather late.

So if this is the biggest problem ever to face your life, and you can't go on if more than two people are in your special anime clubhouse... your angsting over OMG The Kids In Algebra Don't Think I'm "Edgy" Anymore can fit neatly up your ass. Arigatou. ^_^

Increase in availability and a decrease in price. If that's what anime becoming 'mainstream' is going to get us, then let it happen, if it hasn't already.
