It's in the true, existing beliefs of Alchemy, which could easily be a religion on it's own due to the fact that it believes in the immortal soul, and that, if a person is able to break from the 7 Sins, then they shall become gold, or immortal. ( man is lead/metal and the immortal soul is gold..they didn't litterally try to turn lead/metal into gold.. > > ).
So your saying a snake isn't a Judeo-Christian symbol of sin? I don't care what context it's used in, but if it's purpose is related to sin (the snake), and becoming free of sin (symbolized by a cross), to achieve immortality, that seems very much to be taken from Christian ideas. :?

Just because Christianity might not exist in that world, doesn't mean that there can't be Christian references in uses that aren't purely taken straight from Christianity.

You do have a point. It's all in how a person looks at life. That will dictate how they relate different images to their belief structure. In some religions the snake/serpent does not represent evil/sin. It is just the representitive of a specific power. In a lot of beliefs there is no good or evil, it is only man that assigns these labels to natural or manmade things.

If you are looking for an anime that is focused on religion you should try Chrono Crusade.

Posible Spoiler
The antire serries is loosely based on the Fatima Prophicies. These Prophicies even fortold the attemped assasination of Pope John Paul and WW2.

Yes thats totally true. Being a christian, when I saw the episode that explained Ed and Al past, I found it a little disturing but, it did explain with that the Elrics stepped into god's territory and got punished for it. I also noticed that the alchemey circle looked almost like a satanic summoning circle. The Ishbals, I think are compared to today's Muslims, they saw alchemy as heiracy against thier religion, so they already didnt like the Military, also the invasion of Ishbal might be somewhat sompared to the Crusades of medieval times

Hmm..partly true.. The Alchemy circles are real circles though, not Satanic ones ( though they do kinda look like them..can't argue there... ). Besides, what some people see as Satanic symbols, other people, such as Wiccan people, see as magic circles. ( no, i'm not Wiccan..read it in a book my friend had.. ) Just wondering, you were refering to the Pentagram, ne?

Also note Lior in itself. It's kinda like..ya know how in the past, people were creating their own religions? There were a bunch that were nothing but lies and fantasies, and i think that the religion you see in the first chapter when they are in Lior, Letoism, may have been in that idea. ( actually..there are STILL people creating made up religions..so yeah.. > > )

You forget though, that Christiananity took over other religion's symbol's and demonized them in an attempt to gain complete religious sway. Almost every christian symbol had a past life hundreds or thousands of years before the advent of the church.

to add to the list.

Greed(manga) and Lust(anime) were pinned up just like ol' Jman himself, and in the manga, Greed was pinned to a big cross shape slag of concrete, rather than just a simple big hunk of stone.

and just look at Scar with his whole demonic arts bit and god mess.
