Is there a program that...
...records what is happening on my computer monitor? Specifically, I want to record the cut-scenes* from Silent Hill 2 (PC version).
* By "cut-scenes", I mean the ones rendered with the game engine, not the FMVs.
Anybody know of a program that can do that?

My roomate uses My Screen Recorder, but it costs $29.95, I don't know of any free programs, but My Screen Recorder seems to work really well.

I know there are several that people keep mentioning here. Either look around, or wait for one of those in the know to pop in.
Be warned, though, non-FMV sequences don't fall under the video game clause of the "what constitutes anime" clasification of this site IIRC.

Cut scenes are still ok AFAIK, just not a significant(1) amount of gameplay footage(2).
Some games, like Front Mission 3 and 4, have only like 2 FMVs and the rest of the cutscenes are rendered in game to show character equipment and stuff. It would be pretty restrictive to throw those scenes out, as they are expositionary and have some cool explosions. :O
(1)"Significant" gets argued daily around here. My rule is, if you think to yourself "Wow, what a great video using cutscenes!" it's good, and if you think "Wow, what a great video using real gameplay footage!" then it probably isn't.
(2)"Gameplay footage" is just that, you playing the game. Taking damage. Shooting the guns. Etc. I know the Red vs. Blue guys do it, that's awesome. But you can't do it here. Tis the rules.

Whew, that's a relief. Im only gonna use the cut-scenes, not any gameplay sequences.

That only seems to make sense too. I know that some games, like Skies of Arcadia, don't have any FMVs at all, but still have lots of cut-scenes. At least the GC release does. So far it's the same with Legend of Zelda games too, no actual "video sequences" like Final Fantasy games. So it's good that those rendered cut-scenes should be considered as useable footage for AMVs, IMO.
