Best Converter

looking for the best dvd converter out there.... the ones ive tried loose the quailty of my anime too much.... i really dont care how much they cost.... money not issue.... also wantin to find the best movie maker out there... currently i only have the windows movie maker that came on my comp.... the 2 vids i made didnt come out too bad but that watermark got on my nerves a little but i couldnt get rid of it and it lost a little bit of hte quality of the amv when i saved it.... any suggestions would help out alot.... especially when itll be comin from those that have made more amv's than i have and know what works and doesnt....

the word "best" is way too subjective to be useful in most cases.
since moeny is not an issue, I'd suggest getting Adobe Premiere 6.0 or Pro 1.5
Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 has come out, but I haven't heard anything about it yet (and most of the guides have instructions for 1.5)

I've also heard good things about Vegas Movie Studio.

As for dvd converter, if you mean to rip footage from dvd, then no matter what you get, the quallity won't change significantly.
the dvd looks ok as is, but only if you don't change the speed.
to make the quality better, you should make an AviSynth script (included in the amv app) with the right functions and filters, you can make the dvd footage appear better than when it plays on a tv (or computer)

if you mean encoding and writing to dvd, Intervideo WinDvd is good enough, Nero software has good reviews too.

I'm pretty sure that WMM doesn't put a watermark on exported material (but I've never used it, so I'm not too sure)
I'm thinking that you see the Divx logo, which can be turned off (although how you go about doing this escapes me at the moment)

thanks for info Kariudo.... ive heard good things bout adobe as well.... just wanna make sure i get the best.... lol... but still doesnt mean ill be able to produce the best... but practice makes perfect....
as for the converter well u could say a ripper but the ones ive found usin free trials were bad in quality some shutdown on me and some didnt convert it to AVI format just made a copy of the dvd itself.... im want to use all the anime i own in my diff projects that i have in my head.... its just too hard to find a site to get episodes to fav anime and wait for download which even still quality by doin that sometimes isnt the best.... i have quite a few stuff that i downloaded that id like to use but wouldnt b/c of the quality of the vid or subtitles in them.... which i couldnt do anythin bout subs in first 2 vids b/c it was a download.... gonna try again when FFVII: AC comes out on apr 25 after i buy it.... if the converter thats forever to convert i wouldnt mind if the quality is as good as my dvds

most rippers don't rip footage directly to an avi file.
even if they did, it would take a long time to make the footage look good/useable.
dvd Decrypter is the preference for most editiors here, but it has been hard to find after it got bought by Macrovision.
www.doom9.net still has it though (click on the download tab)
the second favorite I believe is smart ripper (you can find this on www.download.com )
both of these are free.

as you mentioned, they don't convert the footage into a useable format, which is why you run the footage through other programs like DGindex (sucessor to DVD2AVI I believe) and AviSynth & VirtualDub(/mod)

you can get these programs (all are free btw) in the amvapp included with the guide that I linked you to above (just look for amvapp in the index of this guide)

this process takes awhile (and a little know-how), but makes your footage look many times better.

Also, remember that using downloaded footage is a pandora's box, and generally not condoned on this site. That's probably where your watermark came from, I'm guessing. Plus, properly processed footage from DVD's just looks so much nicer.

Yeah, the empty hope that flutters out the window, (or perhaps, Windows) when you open up the file.

OK, the best DVD converter is WinAVI, as for the best DVD ripper...well why would you rip it? copy the vobs to the hdd and convert...easy
