Avisynth issues

Post by ShrinkNerv4Eva » Thu Mar 02, 2006 3:26 pm

I guess I should start with the fact that I'm a noob. I can't get the DirectShowSource to work and I can't create .avs files from .d2v in VirtualDubMod using "open file via Avisynth." Can anyone help?

Okay, I figured out the VirtualDubMod part, it was because I was using DVD2AVI instead of DGindex. But I still have a problem with the DirectShowSource command in Avisynth. When I try it with an mpeg file, windows media player opens, tries to open it, then closes.

What happens if you try opening that same script in VirtualDubMod instead?

And you might want to try running the MPEG through DVD2AVI and then serving it with MPEG2Source() instead.

Nope, it doesn't work in VirtualDubMod either. That suggestion worked, creating a d2v file and then an avs file. It's just weird that I can't use
"DirectShowSource" with an mpeg, but "AVISource" will work fine with .avi

Just as there is AVISource() for AVI files, there is MPEG2Source() for MPEG2s, which is what DVD .vob files are. But you can't just put a .vob file into MPEG2Source() because .vob files are UNINDEXED mpeg2 files. Which is where DGIndex comes in. It creates a .d2v files, which indexes the mpeg-2 stream in the .vob, letting you use it better. Then you use the MPEG2Source() command on that .d2v file.

Actually, if you are using DGIndex, it should be making a file named the same thing as the .d2v file you made with an .avs extension in the same directory. That .avs file is one line, MPEG2Source("whateveryounamedthed2v.d2v"). Easier to start with what is already given to you than to write yer own, eh?
Life's short.

Actually the problem arose when I tried an amv that was an mpeg file. But I've given up on trying. It's much easier to create a d2v file and have DGIndex create an avs file just as you. Thanks so much for the help.
