My traditional answer has been "myself".

Then I take a look at my current project and think about all the accusations of pandering to the audience I'm bound to get when it's finally done (heck, the same could be said of my last project).

But that doesn't change the fact that it's making <i>me</i> laugh, dammit.

some are self expression, others are fun, and some are for people who either ask me to, or people who influence my vids.. (most of my better vids were made for or because of someone or a con)

I hope everyone is making AMVs for themselves. If not, editing video to audio = work and not a hobby, and as such, not as much fun. And if it isn't for fun, at least in part, then why are you doing this?

I think I can detect the fun and enjoyment of the editor in the better AMVs I've seen. The thought, care, and attention to detail and the whacked out ideas I've seen can only be because the editor is having fun. You can tell that some are forced, where the editor was dared or coerced and the video seems stale or loses steam. Of course, there are those AMVs created as a challenge and the editor gets a spark and creates something memorable.

Me? I am doing this to get these demons out of my head...
