Official "This part of the guide SUCKS!" thread, 2
Ok, the Read ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides is once again going through a very major update. The entire thing is being brought up to date to use the latest and greatest methods, all the parts that are currently "missing" are being written, and things are being (just slightly) simplified.
So what I want to know is... bearing that in mind, what parts of the guide just suck? Maybe there are one of two specific parts that, no matter how many times you read them, you just can't grasp the concepts that are being explained?
Let me know what problems you have with the guide, and we will see if something can be done about it.
Please sticky this thread.

avspostqual.html and the non-existent part on convention submissions, but we already talked about that.
If Magix Movie Edit isn't on the list of programs that have subpages for setting up projects and exporting videos, then perhaps it should be.
Also: I don't see anything said about illegal field order transitions in MPEG-2 streams (open, say, any Love Hina or Excel Saga VOB in DVD2AVI and scroll through it, and you'll see the field order constantly changing between T and B); Decomb doesn't handle situations like this. I think DGFix is supposed to fix D2V files like that, but as I'm still using DVD2AVI, I have no experience with it. What was my point again? Oh yeah, TIVTC does handle these difficult cases (and rather nicely at that).

There is no reason to stick with DVD2AVI at all. DGIndex's treatment of hybrid sources is better than DVD2AVI's, at least from what I experienced.
The MakeAvis method should be replaced (or at least accompanied) with the VFAPI method. It seems less flawless, at least it works with programs where MakeAvis fails. And some kind of comparison (advantages/disadvantages in table form) of the different methods of treating footage (making clips against direct use of AviSynth(via plugin/MakeAvis/VFAPI) against switch and bait; editing source resolution against editing in target resolution) would be helpfull

could this be added in the guide?
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/phpBB/v ... api#760251
and does this mean there might be an update with AMVapp?

I've got Video deLuxe 2.0. I can do that. I can't speak to how different MME proper may be.Zarxrax wrote:Anyone familiar with Magix willing to volunteer to do this?Scintilla wrote:If Magix Movie Edit isn't on the list of programs that have subpages for setting up projects and exporting videos, then perhaps it should be.
Also, you may want to consider integrating Scintilla's WMM stuff. I think Downwithpants has some material on WMM also.

Ooh ooh, especially DWP's stuff on using custom WMV profiles for exporting from WMM when the DV AVI option doesn't work right (I've got a very-high-quality profile here). I don't know if he included the writeup in with the rest of his WMM guide proper...Kalium wrote:Also, you may want to consider integrating Scintilla's WMM stuff.
