I think this is one of the biggest reasons Suncoast (and Sam Goody, for that matter) are having financial difficulties. They price themselves far enough above the competition that nobody buys there anymore, except when trying to locate some hard-to-find item which is out of print and didn't have enough demand to sell out at their stores, as well as low enough demand that other stores didn't pick it up.

I know I have moved on to Best Buy for most of my non-mailorder DVD buying needs. I had before the local Suncoast announced their closure.

ok so heres whats going on musicland was bought by fye a week or so ago and there closing 50 some what stores out of the 250 still around which is upsetting cuase now i think i need to look for a new job

i dont know if youve been to fye recently but there dvds are even worse 31 for a dvd that coast 24 at suncoast just fyi

I got all of StarBlazers Season 2 for $40.
I got all of Crest of the Stars for $27.

Once I am done with the latter, I know for a fact I'll be selling it...

i have some importint new info that made me drink all weekend

50 stores including mine have been sold to hillco which means that there are 50 suncoasts that will be liqudating as of today, Mon, march 27 we will start at 20% and work are way up to 60

and all the remaning sam goodies will be FYE's

The reason why Best Buy can sell its DVDs and CDs for lower than elsewhere is because they can afford to. Their primary merchandise they sell is the big-ticket items: TVs, computers, refrigerators, car radios, digital cameras, what have you. Best Buy can sell DVDs at a lower price in the hopes that customers buy their big ticket items.

The anime selection at Best Buy isn't what it used to be these days; in fact, Best Buy has a (very idiotic) policy of not re-stocking any anime titles with a pink box or with the word "Princess" in the title. Any titles that are already on the shelves with those characteristics won't be restocked.

That said, I usually only buy from Suncoast if I can't get it cheaper anywhere else. New releases are almost always priced $10 off from retail during the first 30 days or so. And considering I'm a loyal Replay member, I get coupons back from them from time to time and always take advantage of bonus point offers when I can. And as far as the Suncoast closings go in our area (Southeast VA), only ONE Suncoast is closing (Military Circle); the other 4 locations in the area are remaining open. It's good to know we lucked out.

I used to nearly exclusively buy from suncoast, because of their loyalty program (I've been a replay member for quite a long time). I got tired of their higher prices, though, so I started buying more and more elsewhere. The nearest suncoast that is remaining open appears to be an hour's drive. Screw that. Best Buy's brick and mortar stores' selections are alright, but when I go to the closest one, it seems like the same stuff is there every time, with a few new additions.

I might also mention that my area has very few arcades, and the few that are still around are either really small rooms in bowling centers and movie theatres or have lasertag and/or gokarts and stuff. We didn't even have DDR in any arcade in the area until a couple years ago. I might also point out that my area has a higher percentage of skinflints, too...
