instead of watching the fansub, wait for a HQ DVD release

I'm with Omni on this one.

Try it first, and if I like it, I buy it, if I don't like it, I'm not downloading anything anyway.

The thing that I've seen is that the better fansub groups are actually superior to most DVD subtitles that I've seen. So shows like say... Yakitate where things are very 'pun' oriented make no sense at all if you are just watching a subtitled DVD which is most likely not going to have an explanation, or just wimps out and changes the lines.

That said, definately if I'm going to use the shows for footage I'll buy them, or at the least rent them if I can... although, interestingly enough I've seen a few fansubs released in Hidef format (resolution?). I'm curious as to whether they are acutally hi def up just upscaled. If I could get a high def version of my show then that would trump the DVDs for me.

I'm a collector of anime DVDs and only just starter viewing fansubs. I intend to check out what hasn't been lisenced yet to see if is worth getting once it is. I have the first season of Bleach and am anticipating a DVD release. I like to watch anime on the big screen vice my computer and want to see how they will handle a dub.

So for me it's basically fansubs for unlicensed anime; DVDs for the licensed ones that are worth my while. Lucky for me (but not my wallet) I am easily amused and delited, so I rarely turn down a series.

My small circle of Otaku brethren just started with the whole downloading of anime, so we're pretty new at it, but I've taken up the policy of try before you buy. Just as said before, watch it once, if it was good, I should go out and buy, if it sucked, well, I didn't waste 200+ on Full Metal Alchemist (which doesn't suck). But for the weaker willed, keeping the fun subs when they become liscenced for viewing purposes can lead to piracy. Delete after you watch or when it becomes liscenced!

For a while I used the try-before-buy approach. There's something to be said for that. But these days I don't bother with fansubs because I don't feel like spending all the time looking for them, burning them to disc etc., and rent or borrow to try out anime instead.

If something is not ever going to get licensed here (and I mean seriously never, like Rose of Versailles, not "oh noes I have to wait 2 months" like Bleach), then I will look for it in fansub. I haven't bothered to watch the Bleach anime yet, for instance, because once I saw the manga it was kind of a DUH question as to whether it'd be licensed or not. I'm surprised it took as long as it did, actually.

Anyway, for me it's easier to just rent, borrow or buy on sale than download. :?
