another year of "Whos more popular, what songs are more popular, and what anime do you like"... great videos are kept down because their not "popular" enough... bah, sucks!
I don't believe that. The dudes that are popular are popular cause they made good AMV's.....unless they talked crap all over the chatroom or was the head of a huge funny hellish multieditor project....
I beg to differ. This contest was a lot like a cosplay contest I went to see last month. Two guys, both dressed as Roy Mustang from Full Metal Alchemist, walked up on stage and had a huge fangirl reaction. They ended up winning fan favorite.Rurounikeitaro wrote:I don't believe that. But the contest wasn't about the awesomeness of the character, it was how good the costume was made and looked. The costume could have been complete shit, but since it was Roy Mustang, everyone cheered. They weren't even that original, for I saw at least 5 other Roys at the con.
The same thing can be applied here. People are attached to certain anime, music, and editors and don't want to stray. Most popular AMVs are popular because of the names behind it.
Take THIS AMV for example. It is absolutely disgustingly bad. As of typing this up, it has 7087 hits...that's more than what some of the well known editors get for some of their good videos. You want to know what's even worse?...take a look at the AMV's OPINIONS. Why is such a shitty video so popular? (I found this video by quick searching 'alchemist' and finding a video with a lot of hits, to prove my point.)
Game. Set. Match.

Agrees 136% with that post, but mainly this line.Beowulf wrote:The results were very surprising to me. I could have sworn Vlad and Istiv would have won something but neither did. Vlad's I can understand because its an old anime but istiv's Race is scientifically designed to pander to every con audience from the 500 anime characters to the funny gag at the end. I'm totaly baffled that 1985 even got nominated for anything, let alone winning everything. An awful song with a series of painfully forced jokes with ho hum editing.
1985 is good, but not that good.

Very true, however my opinion is based on the technical aspects that beowulf pur forward. And in terms of the video itself, it is nothing super-special. I do like the video a lot don't get me worng, and the 80's stuff is hilarious and clever. But... as you said, it all comes down to; not what i think but the masses.Pwolf wrote:thats completely persoanly opinion... so technicaly it is "that good" in the eyes of those who voted for it...

What i will say though; i think its a video that is likely to appeal to the masses, quite a bit. Which in my theory is why it won:
Popular Song + Popular Series + Comedy + Well-Known Editor + Clever Editting = Mass-attention?
But yeah, as Pwolf says; that will just by my opinion. *smiles*

I suggest that voting be done by a large group of editors who know what they're doing and know what to look for in a winning video. Think about this: I sure as Hell wouldn't want the millions of generic U.S. citizens to run the country themselves. They're all ignorant idiots. Why do you think we elect a small group of people who know what they're doing?
...meh...The sad thing is that this kind of bad VCA voting will continue on for years to come. There's nothing a single person like me can do about it.

These are VIEWER'S Choice Awards, that large group wouldn't be the only viewers. The VCAs are what they are, the results can't please everyone. There's always going to be videos that people wanted to win that didn't, it's just to way of things, as with any sort of contest. It happens, ya know?
