ASF files can be served into VDub by piping them through Graphedit and using AviSynth to open the graph in VDub. The script would be:

Code: Select all

DirectShowSource("asffilename.grf", fps=29.97)
(replace 29.97 with whatever the framerate is, since it doesn't derive framerate too well with ASF, WMV, RM, or a couple other types of video)

If you don't need the audio from the ASF, then you can just use AviSynth without Graphedit, as that's only really needed to preserve audio sync. Of course, using Graphedit isn't always a fool-proof method, and it may not preserve audio sync since you need to specify a framerate. One 99% foolproof method of maintaining audio sync is to decode the ASF or WMV files to AVI using TMPGEnc instead.

Similarly, using Graphedit+AviSynth is the recommended way to serve in H.264-encoded MKV, MP4, or MOV files into VDub. Although in that case the fps function isn't needed.

Back on topic, thanks CHAMELEON_D_H for helping me out, everything worked perfect.
I remember I once used Fansubs to make an AMV. I was young and follish, and even though is was my second AMV it came out uglierthan the first, where I used original DVD. I'm not saying that you should buy those R2 DVDs, cause the do cost alot, but you really should check on the Heads UP! forum for some good sales. Many times you can find ADV releases for 5-6 USD. Trust me on this one, working with DVDs is much easier and brings way better results.

It's not about actually doing it or not, it's about talking about it or trying to legitimize it. It's illegal. Admit it to yourself. International copyright exists. You can't legally download it. Personal feelings and the perceptions one tries to convey are two different things. I couldn't give two shits if you used fansubs, but if everyone in the forums here including the mods allowed the "we don't care what you do" view to flourish, it becomes quite damning to the comunity as a whole. If nobody talks about it, we're all a bit safer as a community. It's also a good idea to periodically educate the ignorant...

Though I understand your sentiments of blowing 40 bucks on a DVD that contains 2 episodes, a Bleach DVD purchase isn't oh so bad since I believe the DVDs to contain four episodes instead of the usual two that many DVDs have. Only con is that there is a lack of English subtitles, but since Bleach IS licensed and will be airing on adult swim this fall, having Bleach fansubs is... 'illegal', yes, having them in the first place before NA licensing is still illegal, but in the sense of now you can buy the DVDs here within the next few months, the having such is 'illegal'. I think I confused myself but hopefully you'll understand.

I think that having an .asf file to edit a video is kinda ... i dunno, personally editing video in any other format besides .mpg, .vob, or .avi will guarentee the shittiness of shittiness. :/

Believe me, I've never used .asf before. I'm usually one to convert .ogm or .mkv due to the dvd quality. But because the clips i was looking for were in such rare quantity (Weather time lapse videos), I had to scrape together anything I could find. I don't plan on upping the video on here, or rather any public place, because the quality varies so much. This was simply a project for my friend. I have no idea why he wanted a mixture of anime and real-life footage to tell the truth.

Modern subs aren't bad at all. Maybe back when anime wasn't as popular the subs were badly ripped and encoded, but now the quality and subbing is superb on the bigger series. If you look at Lunar's work on Bleach, it's great quality. There has only been one case in all of history where a company sued a fansub group, because the japanese can barely touch them over here. Plus, it'd look bad on their part. Out of all bootlegged material, I'd go as far as to say subbed anime is one of the safest. Although since it is licensed (I had no idea, but am excited all the same) I guess that I'll have to eagerly await the dub.
