well first looking at the audio and video guides might help, though if youre really wanting to get into this to make a good one, be sure you watch alot of good ones, so you know whats good and bad... so you know what to avoid (orphan frames, unintional subs ect.) and what kind of quality you want your video to look like

this guide will specifically show you how to rip DVDs though, then after that you need to get yourself a video editing program like:
magix
premeire
vegas
windows movie maker
ulead
pinnacle
Ect.

and start playing with it and learn the program... learn their effects, and experiment...

then.... you will need to learn compression... ect, so you can upload your video to the .org and it will be small enough.

each person you ask will have their own method of making a video, so asking a general question will give varied answers...

good luck, i hope this helps :)

We all do at some point on our path. But fear knot, you will find your way. *wonders off into the distance*

Before you get to the technical part of getting your stuff on the computer and messing with it, read Phade's Guide to Making Good Music Videos, in the Guides section of this site. It is an easy read and will save you a lot of the common mistakes made by first-time AMV makers. There's also a good guide on how to action sync - for all videos, not just action videos! Action sync can make or break your video.

So can credits, aspect ratios, compression, interlacing, and all that other technical stuff. Once you have a grasp on the theory, there are several good walkthroughs on how to make an AMV out of your DVDs. They use software that makes my iBook run and hide under the couch. Good luck. If perchance you're using a Mac, PM me and I can give you some pointers.
