The ending of the FMA movie (spoilers!)

Post by Sandra-chan » Mon Apr 17, 2006 7:45 am

Does the FMA manga end the same way as the FMA movie does?!? Does Al and Ed begin to live in "our" world and never come back to their world and meet Winry and all the others again?!? :(

I have watched the movie, and I wonder if the manga ends the same way. I can't read the end of the manga because the last books in the series hasn't come out yet in english.

The manga hasn't been completed yet, but at the rate it's going, it'll probably be very different from the movie.

The manga isn't over yet. It's far from it..well, not that far but still far. There's 12+ volumes of the manga in japanese, plus a volume 0 which is a collection of short comic strips that Hiromu Arakawa made (it's really funny! XP). The manga takes a great turn by the point of Ed and Al meeting up with their teacher, Izumi.
manga-spoilers wrote:A young 10 year old girl named Mei comes to the country of Amestris from Xing across the Great Desert and ends up in Youswell. The mines there had collapsed when she got there, and being an alchemist herself, she used her abilities to return the mine to how it was so that the people inside could get out okay. Her ability involves drawing a transmutation circle on the ground with Kunai, throwing 1-5 kunai at/to the target, placing her hands on the transmutation circle in front of her, and the reaction appears in a circle on/at the target. She's thanked by the owners of Youswell (The people that Ed had helped back in the first volume of the manga. He helped free them from Yoki's rule (Lyra isn't present in the manga btw)).

Meanwhile, Ed and Al had returned to Rush Valley because Ed broke his automail and needed Winry to repair it. While waiting for the repairs, Ed and Al walked around town. Al crouched down at the alley because he had found something, and Ed says "It better not be another cat.", and Al said "Yep!" and lifted up a lifeless man by the name of Ling who just happened to have come from the same location as Mei had. From there, the events continue to where it is now.. (poor Ling..he's been turned into the new Greed but he's still fighting for his body since he was transmuted alive and still has his conciousness..)

((If i mention any more without you reading it yourself, you might get confused, so that's why i'm not saying anymore..))

Is it "our" world beyond the gate in the manga too? Or is it something the anime made up to fit in with their story??

As for the gate, I'm not really sure. I follow the Japanese manga (I'm on chapter 57/58) and I've seen the movie but I don't know. Seeing as where the manga is going right now, my guess is no. The manga is SO DIFFERENT from the anime it's unbelievable, so they probably won't have similar endings. Personally, I hated the movie ending. It made me sad :(
