Masking without the benefit of Premiere or AE
Ok, first question, is it possible? My resources are supremely limited, in that I only have WMM2, Paintshop Pro 4 (nope, I don't even have photoshop) and the ever wonderful Virtual Dub. What I want to do is reduce lip flap, nothing more complicated than that, but I'm not really sure where to begin with the software I've got.
Second question - although I'm not going to do it in the vid I'm working on now, would it be possible to do decent lipsync with the software I've got? Of course, WMM2 doesn't let you work frame by frame, but I've got a feeling Virtual Dub might be more accomodating, if I could only work out how to use it to do anything other than pre-processing and HuffYUV clip making.
All help/advice very welcome and greatly appreciated.

Well, I can't help you with your first question, cause as far as I know, the answer is no. I'm sure you'd have no problems creating a simple matte in Paintshop, but I don't believe that either WMM or VDub(Mod) can utilize them. Someone jump in if I'm wrong.
Although, with lipsyncing on your second question, you can "take pictures" with WMM and use them for your lipsync frames. This guide will give you a basic rundown on how this is done with frames. You'll just be using stills intead of frames of video. And I'd recommend converting those stills to .BMP and reimporting them instead of using the .JPEG versions that WMM will give you. Hope that helps, good luck.

That could apply, possibly, to WMMwhatever if you're able to do multi-track editing.

In Windows Movie Maker, you have one video track.Ladymercury wrote:http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/ ... sync2.html

However, I've found a way around the limits of my own video program (iMovie) that is very similar to WMM in a lot of respects. Try Google-ing plugins for WMM. You may, as I did, find that some geeks wrote a patch that will allow you to do frame-by frame editing of your video.

Thanks for the advice, guys. Unfortunately a googling session hasn't yielded anything in the way of handy multi-track plugins (although there are a ton of cheesy effects plugins... go figure), but I'm not giving in yet. *g*
Dokidoki - great links, thanks. It's going to take me a while to work them out, still being a bit of an avisynth newbie, but that ain't a bad thing. I get the feeling that cumbersome is pretty much a rule of life when using wmm. If you want fancy stuff easy then you have to shell out on better editing software. Ah well.
Gangstaj8 - I'll give bmps a try. The only problem (of course, there has to be one) is wmm's useless "feature" of only allowing you to edit in lumps of 3 frames or so. Might be able to work around that with a bit of creativity though. We'll see. (btw, and a propos of nothing, love your Assault and Battery vid. *g*)
