I look at each video as a separate entity. I could explore the different aspects of Ghost in the Shell with probably dozens of videos, for example, and many of them would use many of the same scenes, but in a different way. I of course only have 2 vids with that show/movie universe dealy, but the same holds true: their purposes were different, and although they use some of the same scenes, they were in different ways and different contexts, and I don't find that either limiting or tacky. If you're making a zillion DBZ action vids with the same scenes, that might be tacky... but if you're original in purpose and intent I think that it doesn't matter.
My newest video is up at http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... hp?v=89496

eh, it's up to you.
In relation to myself - I personally try not to use the same anime or musical source (or sometimes even musical artist) more than twice, because i like having a whole bunch of variety. I would use the same source again if i believed it was a better concept than an earlier video, but otherwise, not really.
In relation to others - Someone using the same source more than once doesn't really bother me all too much. Unless they've made 10+ videos and have used that source for 90% of the videos. Then it kinda gets to me. Sometimes an editor revisiting a series they've already used can come up with some interesting results. A good example is Sierra Lorna's "Sound Life", which uses a very slow and dramatic song, and as such the editing reflects that, as compared to her "This is Living!", which uses a much more upbeat and 'actiony' song, and as such the editing reflects that. Two completely differently styled videos, same editor, same source. I love them both.
In the it shouldn't really matter what other people think, but as we all know, people like to get noticed

I tend to make videos with whatever anime I happen to be interested at the time. When I started I had one anime obsession and I made a crapload of vids for it. Then I look back and decide I can do a better vid for a concept and I go ahead and do it, reusing scenes and mixing in new ones, usually to a different song. I figure if I want to specialize in one anime, that's my choice. As long as I'm still making the amvs that no one else on the org will make for the anime, no one can gripe about my lack of creativity.
Of course I've expanded my anime collection a lot since I started, so I don't really specialize in a single anime anymore. Now I jump all over the place, with anime and music. But I won't shy from making yet another YYH vid if I think of an idea I want to see done and can't find in the amv pool. If it's a matter of creativity or pride or something to use a huge variety of anime in your vids, I can always hide behind my multi-anime vids. I figure one vid with 100+ sources should make up for 10 vids with the same source. If it doesn't, then I can always make a few more 60+ sources multi-anime vids till I'm accepted as a 'proud fan of various anime' or whatnot.
How many different anime do you have to use to be a good varied editor, anyway? Is there a specific number that will excuse having a few favorite anime you like to see in amvs? Or do we only count single-source vids when we're looking at variety?

who cares about being "varied".
If you want to make a whole bunch of vids on 1 anime go ahead.
Each individual amv is unique and there is no "varied" rating in opinions so what does it matter.

Yeah, but that refers to All AMVs Ever In The World ('cause, you know, we've all seen them ), rather than one person's body of work.JaddziaDax wrote:youre right its not "varied" its titled "originality" O.odoomer000 wrote:Each individual amv is unique and there is no "varied" rating in opinions so what does it matter.
...that was a pretentious phrase, please excuse me. *bleaaaarghhhh*
okay, back.
The sooner you stop obsessing about how you'll be viewed by a bunch of dorks on the internet (and I mean that with the utmost affection, you dorks), the sooner you can get to having fun, and the more fun you'll have.
If you are limited to what you own right now, you can practice and not release, or practice and release, or sit on your hands until you get more stuff to work with. It's up to you.
