hmm...this video only uses 2 effects (besides the normal fade in/out)
the first one I want to call image overlay. This is done by putting one clip in the "bottom" video stream and putting one clip on top of it. You then mess with the opacity of the top clip.

the other effect uses a simple image mask, you can create ones like that in mspaint (just a simple bar).

Just a note: I know that in 6.0, it's called transparency. I'd assume it's the same in 6.5. Don't know what it's called in Pro, which, IIRC, is what Kariudo has. Thought I'd mention that incase there was any confusion, simply to avoid any possible self-inflicted cranial contusions.

the most work you'll have to do to create that effect (besides timing and a little bit of positioning) is create a few more masks like that one with the black bar in different places. You then use it as a different mask

[you posted right before I was going to submit a longer post, but this was the only relevant part]

You can also use the motion settings to move the mask to different positions, but this can get messy with transparencies sometimes. You'd have to play with the Fill Color in the Motion Settings. But, sometimes it's just easier to create a new mask, like Kariudo said. Good luck.
