Anyways, I'd suggest making clips with Lagarith or keyframe every frame if you still need to use XviD.

Thanks, I was a long time wmm use and just upgraded to premier and learned about the xvid+premier problem the hardway.

I don't mean to hijack this but I can't install huffyuv or lagarith, I get an error each time saying i need the dll or that i need to make sure the location is correct and I dont know what to do for those.

IIRC, the codecs come in an archivced file. (usually a "zipped" file)

for this you need to remember where you unzipped the files.
when it asks you to browse for the .dll, go to where you unzipped the files (I just unzip everything to the desktop so I know where it is) you should see a file with a name that ends in .dll, select it and hit continue

if you don't find the dll you can always get it from the codec's site http://neuron2.net/www.math.berkeley.ed ... ffyuv.html for huffy (click on pre-built dll)
...can't seem to find it for Lagarith.

and just to make a point, (insert editing program here) + divx/xvid = problem is more accurate than just premiere + divx/xvid = problem
you should never use these codecs on footage you plan to edit

erm, yeah dvd footage is actualy alot smaller. An epp on dvd averages 1GB while with huffyuv its 15GB. Big difference. And editing video encoded with a codec that isnt designed for editing is just asking for things to screw you over.

hmm, you mean 15mb? I just noticed that using lagarith to compress a small 2 minutes clip ripped off of dvd expanded it to 500mb when it was 32 mb earlier with the xvid codec. i suspect huffyuv is different hopefully.

oh god if your going to pretend you know what your talking about at least do a little research. Huffyuv and Lagarith are Lossless codecs. They create each france as a full image. They're designed for editing. Thats why they're alot bigger than lossy codecs such as xvid and dvd (mpeg) files, which are compressed and have alot of there data removed to make the files small as possible, which is exactly why they're bad for editing.
