Once you get up to Lab 5 in the manga you can see where it starts taking a different path. I prefer the manga myself to the anime.
Anyway, Naruto was made for 8-9 year olds in Japan, the equivalent of 13 year olds in the US. When it was put on TV, they lowered it to PG, or basically, 10 (except i think it's slightly gone up because of the fact that they sorta got tired of trying to edit out all of the blood).
There's only a few fillers within the Naruto series prior to..ep 137 or so. Once 137 hit (or was it 136 or something..i forgot.. ), it became nothing but fillers because Masashi Kishimoto was slow in getting out the pages for the new story ark, which is now completed ( so they can start making the anime of it anytime now.....anytime now i say! > < ), and the next ark has started as well (which has turned out to be VERY important).
Filler eps are annoying..at times. When they are placed wrong, like.. EFEFEFEFEFE gets annoying (F = Filler, E = Ep), but if it's something like..say..FMA, then it'll be EEEEEEFEEEEEEE and it's not as annoying. Naruto was basically EEFFEEEEEEFEEEEEFEEEEFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF, which has gotten annoying. BUT, if you know where the fillers start and end, then you can just skip them and watch the actual show without worrying about it, unlike when it's EFEFEFEFEFEF..like in InuYasha.. > > It was like EEEEEEFEFEFEFEEEEEEEFFFFEEFEFEF @_@...
