Grandia 3 FMV ripping Help?
I'm wondering if anyone knows a way to get around/through the Nova Extractor part of ripping the Grandia 3 FMV's... I'm new at this but I've been trying and every time getting stuck at the 30 file limit of the unregistered version. The movie files seem to be spread out into a large number of files (I even tried at 200mb DVD split).
I have searched and I couldn't find a way through the numerous video file problem and had also read someone saying Grandia 3 is easy to rip, so I'm hoping i'm just missing something easy. I followed Castor's guide all the way to that problem, so I everything should have been in order. Anyway, I would really appreciate the help, thanks to anyone that can offer advice

I think I may have posted that.
anyways, when I meant "rip" I meant it's easy to extract the fmv's off the dvd. You don't even need Nova extractor. All you need to do is drag and drop the movie files off the dvd from the movie folder. Your biggest problem is going to be converting them to a more user friendly format. Unfortunately, I've never tried converting those movie files myself. They're not in your typical .pss format. So it might be a little more difficult.
Sorry I could'nt be of more help at the moment. I'll see if I can convert them to mpeg or avi format today and post any results I have.

ok. after a couple seconds, I got it.
They're not in .pss format, but don't worry about. Forget what the guide tells you at the moment. All you need to do to rip grandia 3's fmv's is
1.)Drag the files off the "MOVIE" folder of the dvd
2.)Download and open a program called DGIndex (If you haven't already)
3.)Drag the movie file you want to convert into that program.
4.)Go to "file"-->"save project and demux video"
5.)DGIndex will create several files. The only file your interested in is the file that has a "demuxed" extension after the file name. So if your converting the opening of the game, you'll be using the file called "GRM50.demuxed". You can delete the other files that DGIndex creates.
6.)Open that file into virtual dub and convert it as you see fit.
Like the kingdom Heart fmv's and cut scenes, the sound is not included with the movie files. So if your out to make a music video, this should'nt be a big deal. But if you want to rip these to watch at your leisure, then that could be a problem.
Anyways, that's all there is to it. I know it may look like a lot, but it's not. It's very simple.

If your interested, I think it *may* be possible to rip the audio of the movie files. The "GR3_STR.STZ" located at the bottom of the "MUSIC" folder intrigues me. It's a pretty large folder afterall and it's the only large file in that folder. Sure enough, after using MFaudio to sample it, I definately heard some music from the file. Unfortunately, I'm no expert with that program so I don't know how to scan through the music file with that program. But if I had to take a guess, I'd say the audio to those movie files is located somewhere in that file as well as the rest of the music on that dvd.
if you ever get motivated enough to mess around with the program, you can download it here:

Either that, or as I stated before, you'll just have to capture the audio yourself.

Well it worked well up until the DGIndex part... I can play the video in DGindex (without sound) but when I save it, it saves the file with a "picture error" and after that Virtualdub won't recognize it. When DGIndex is saving the file, you can't see the video footage either, so i'm unsure what i'm doing wrong.

I think I see where your going wrong. And that's in part due to me. Regardless of the "picture error", DGIndex did create a file with a .demuxed extension, correct? If so, then you did do it right. Where I went wrong was when I told you to use Virtual dub. Your not supposed to use Virtual dub, but Virtual dub mod. Download that program and drag the file into that instead. Your right about virtual dub. It doesn't read the demuxed file. But Virtual dub mod shoud.

glad to know you got the video files to work for you so far. (that's the important thing, right?)
Anyways, as far as the audio is concerned, your more or less on your own from here. Sorry, but I can't help you too much with MFAudio. Keep in mind, there are no guarantees that the audio to the fmv's are even in that music file. It's just mere speculation on my part. So it might not even be worth spending time over.
If you have a video capture card, or someway to record the sound from the fmv's, then now would be the time to use it. (I know it means having to play though the game again) but that's the only guaranteed way to get the sound for the fmv's in the particular situation.
