what format is your foootage originally?
you should export your video the same way you import it... and use AVIsynth to fix any aspect ratio problems...
or use AVS to correct any aspect ratio problems before hand, then import it that way... then you should be able to export without any problems with aspect ratio

well im not sure what your problem is...
I know Vegas kinda sucks when it comes to Aspect Ratio and it will change stuff when you go to export FROM VEGAS... if i recall it sticks a black bar on the top and bottom of the video... and looks like its streatching it out a bit.... does that sound about right?
sorry when i first read your question i was half awake O.o
you can fix that POST Production with AVISynth + Virtualdub Mod...
the only thing i can say is export the video from Vegas in either uncompressed, lagarith, or huffy then set up an AVS file to fix the aspect ratio (i usually do a crop and resize crop depending on the original video) and then use the AVS+Vdub to compress to XVID... that can fix any aspect ratio problems...
Do you know how to use AVISynth?
also try instead of "fast recompress" from Virtualdub, just set the compression as Lagarith, and go into the stream list and disable any audio...
I've noticed that MPEG4 V3 codec vids will majorly lag in Vegas, but if you use Lagarith codec vids they will play back in real time... its helped me improve in my editing... only thing is Lagarith vids will take up alot more room than mpeg4 v3.. O.o
I've never had any discoloration problems... O.o Im not sure what could be causing that..

oh yes, thats exactly what my problem is.
now I have a few questions concerning your answers:
1) Isn't it okay if I just render properly into divx, and then fix it by cutting off the black parts, and then risizing the video again to fit the 640x480 resolution?
2) How big will my videos be with Lagarith?
3) Won't it be even slower with Vegas if MPEG4 and Logariths mix?
4) If I'd just recompress all fragments I've done so far and working with in Vegas into Logarith, will it mess up what I've done so far in Vegas?

1) don't read from vegas in divx/xvid/anything compressed... just render huffy/lag/uncompressed to 720 and then resize to 640 later and cut off black if you need toamcsi wrote:oh yes, thats exactly what my problem is.

2) big.. but smaller than huffyuv(i think) which you can use instead
3) you shouldnt import mpeg4.. just import uncompressed/huffy/lag then your vegas will not lag while you're editing o_O and it doesnt matter if you import/export with the same codec (i think that's what you're asking...?)
4) yes probably. vegas is feeding of your mpeg, the lags will be completely different files... just import lag/huffy (choose one) for your next video, and export this one with lag/huffy
