I mostly avoid said site, though I know someone who does watch fansubs on it though I'm still trying to persuade him to do otherwise (he's afraid of bittorrent and claims that it goes too slowly for his tastes) I think what'll ultimately do in YouTube is not controlling what they have up. I'm just waiting for someone to sue them, because even though they claim to be cracking down on licensed stuff it's still quite easy to find an episode of Utena or Bleach with a few clicks. Since other better alternatives are also popping up (such as Yahoo video and others) I have a feeling that the pressure on them is going to increase drastically.

I believe Youtube will not go down for this issue. No matter how many "copyrighted" episodes / footage there is on youtube, they won't go down. Simply because, If a company wants the "copyrighted video" removed from youtube, they can do just that. simply by emailing Youtube with the links to the videos they want removed. The beuty of it is, Youtube will remove the specific videos linked by the company, But since there is so many different Videos [Episodes / vids/ etc] That linking them all individually would be impossible. This is the loophole Youtube will pretty much use. They will tell companies, We will remove Whatever you want, Just link us to the videos you want removed. Every day new ones are added, So its imposisble to get rid of them all. This is basically how a lot of torrent sites stall the big media companies.

Uh, a judge can rule that the site needs to prevent all copywrited material from being hosted or face fines / jail time for the people at the top. Since they can't do that, they'd be forced to close.Rem0 wrote:I believe hosatchel will not go down for this issue. Youtube will tell the court, If for example, Paramount has an issue with us, We will gladly assist them, Simply link us the videos in question for copy right infrignment, and we will *review* it and then remove it if it violates your copyright. Thats pretty much what one of the big Bit torrent sites are doing to the MPAA, They've been posting the letters they send and recieve on their website. Anyway, If a Torrent site can keep the lawyers and judges at bay doing a simmilar stragety I'm sure youtube can last XD.

This won't work for a website. If it's a big enough deal to go to court, they'll have internet archive references that prove that content existed at a given point in time in direct violation of the ruling that they prevent such things from being hosted. If it's made clear that it's up to youtube's staff to prevent the listings, they will reassess their site's existance since it's nearly impossible with their current model to prevent. I think a rulling that states the site itself is responcible for the content isn't that big of a streach...Rem0 wrote:hosatchel will tell the court, If for example, Paramount has an issue with us, We will gladly assist them, Simply link us the videos in question for copy right infrignment, and we will *review* it and then remove it if it violates your copyright. Just out of curiosity I look at YouTube's policy on copyrights, and these are their exact words:
"If you are the copyright owner of this video and believe it has been uploaded without your permission, please follow these directions to submit a copyright infringement notice."
It then takes you to a page that gives you an address to mail things to, as in snail mail. I think this is irresponsible of them, considering they let users flag other innapropriate content, but it requires the company itself to report them. I literally typed in Grenadier and immediately found an illegally uploaded episode, ripped straight off the DVDs from all appearances. I think this is a bad policy of theirs and doesn't help them at all when dealing with companies.

Send links with episodes like that in an email to the owners of the copyright if you feel so strongly about it. It's up in the air if it will do any good though. For example, I can't image how many times sites like narutofan have been brought to the attention of Viz. o.o;;AthenAltena wrote:Just out of curiosity I look at hosatchel's policy on copyrights, and these are their exact words:
