Question: How do you get someone addicted to anime?

Answer: Melt some anime dvd's into a liquid, mix it with crack, take a few shots.

I have a friend who used to hate Anime. One day, he said to me "Find me something even HALF as good as The X-Files, and maybe I'll watch it."

So i reply, "Come back to my place... I wanna show you something."

I plopped him down in my apartment livingroom, turned on my computer, and turned on Monster.

He was hooked after the first episode.

Try to find out what she liked about Witch Hunter Robin. Try to focus on anime that blend in that aspect then branch out from there. ROD the TV might be one to consider. It is a little on the dark side plus it has the action and heroines the way Witch Hunter Robin does.

Look at some classic ones not just new ones also. There are so many good ones out there you are bound to find some she will like. I personally love Fushigi Yuugi and Blue Seed 9 but not everyone agrees with me.

lol I showed my mother mononoke some time back when she asked if I had a good movie and ever since she's bin into anything ghibli and things like bebop. She never bought anything herself though she enjoys watching it. Kinda scary when you hear the car parking infront of the house with the prodigy kicking out of the stereo knowing its your mom... Dad strangely enough is only interested in amv's to be more speciffic mine and my friends...

Ontopic: Try going with some cheap laugh things like azumanga and things that are just absolutely cute. Also thumbs up on atleast trying and stepping forward about it

You can't get into something that you don't like, but if you want some recommendations, I recommend:

Outlaw Star (ultimate newbie anime... good action, good characters, fast pace, passable story, no drawn out fights or really weird concepts)

Berserk (almost perfect story telling, some good fights, and some of my favorite anime characters; first episode is kind of meh (aside from the foreshadowing; remember the name "Griffith") and the second episode sucks horribly, but aside from that, expect a good show)

Neon Genesis Evangelion (this show is legendary for a good reason; it takes a long time to move past the "fun and games" portion, but once it does, expect some crazy stuff to start happening)

Gungrave (not quiet as good as Berserk, but still really good storytelling, action, and characters)

Great Teacher Onizuka (I found it hilarious, and I'm not usually a fan of anime comedy; good drama and characters too)

Full Metal Panic (another really good anime comedy)

Samurai Champloo (a show that almost completely avoids all of the usual anime cliches. If giant sweat drops and abusive schoolgirls are starting to grind away at your nerves, this is the anime for you... only downside is that the central story is little more than an excuse to hold the group together; the show consists of a bunch of short stories, and the "sunflower samurai" (the characters make fun of that too) rarely ever gets more than a brief mention)

Cowboy Bebop (see Samurai Champloo, though the central story shows up a bit more often)

Fullmetal Alchemist (no relation to Full Metal Panic... another one of my favorite anime stories)

Try those for starters.

My friend made me mad. I tackeled him into the wall, held him there while I kneed his testicals, then threw him over my bed into my dresser.

definitely fun for the whole family would be

Girls Bravo 1st and 2nd season [if you can stomach the oh so fanservicey nudity and disregard the sexual situations warning, there really isn't any...]

RECORD OF LODOSS WAR OAV [avoid tv like the plague]
That was my first $100 anime series that I bought like wayyyy back when...

Nobody I've known has EVER watched the first volume and said [ok, let's do something else...]

It's just got that good of a story. It's an rpg style epic that'll please anyone looking for story, and substance...

If you're not into that kind of mature stuff, than Girl's Bravo and Please Teacher [my two favs] come to mind...

Mr Oni
I'm just saying, if there had been deleted scenes like that to G.I. Joe, it would have had that same thrill to it that I get from seeing all the stuff American censors deemed too problematic to keep in the stateside Sailor Moon. "Hey, look, they're beating up cute animals!" "Hey, look, Shingo just kicked his sister!" "Whoa! Leaving a bar with a guy she just met... Usagi's not setting a very good example for young girls, is she?" As one of Usagi's friends said when Chibi-usa was revealed to be her daughter from the future, "At what hour of what day of what year did this happen!?"

Just imagine if you could say that about G.I. Joe. "Hey look, they're all hanging out at a bar!" "Hey, look, Sergeant Slaughter is smoking!" "Uh oh! Daina's got the monthly blahs! Look out!" "Baroness is pregnant? Who's the father, I wonder?"

G.I. Joe for mature audiences... now that would be something else.

I didn't like Record of Lodoss War. (the OVA was the one with the posessed chick where they tried to sacrifice Deedlit, right?) Maybe it was because it was really hyped on the only anime forum that I was hanging out on at the time, but I was disappointed. The story, the action, the characters... all of them were pretty meh. It was just a generic Dungeons and Dragons show.
