The best guitar performance you'll ever hear
Came across a video via Fark.com yesterday that is most definitely for great justice - especially for you Evangelion fans who enjoy a bit of classical music.
Link to the video is here, and I have a link to an mp3 version somewhere.

It seems that a lot of people who know how to play guitar could pull that off in their sleep. I know nothing of playing however. But for REAL Joygasm of guitaring godliness, you may want to look into live performances of Michael Romeo.

^ I was actually going to link to that one.
I had a post written up linking to a bunch of great performances (including one of Romeo's), but I'm using IE and I got 404d when I tried to post it. But if anyone wants to see 'em, they're all over Eutoob. Check for Al di Meola, Michael Romeo, John Petrucci, Yngwie Malmsteen, Jason Becker, and Shawn Lane.

Kusoyaro: We don't need a leader. We need to SHUT UP. Make what you want to make, don't make you what you don't want to make. If neither of those applies to you, then you need to SHUT UP MORE.

Of course a great band for some great guitar is Dream Theater. They specialize in lots of crazy musical techniques like changing up the time signature...pretty much all of the time. So the guitar solos can't have a whole lot of improvisation, since the number of beats changes every measure, but what they've already worked out is amazing.
I think one of the most overlooked guitar artists is the guitarist who plays for Primus. It's almost sin for me not to know his name, so I can't help you there, and most of the time when you search for Primus it features Les Claypool, lead vocals and bass. He's great too. One of the best songs ever b y Primus is Tommy the Cat Live on Rhinoplasty, so check that out if you get the chance.
