whats all the fuss about naruto?
hey...dont get me wrong, i dont hate it, but i dont like it either. I saw quite a bit of it and have to say that im unimpressed, i was expecting something as good as dbz from what ive heard, but not even close.
After a while i figured out that only kids watch this show...am i right? Since i was a kid when i watched dbz and loved it, maye if i was a kid now id appreciate naruto more.
what draws you guys into the show?
ps; this aint a hate topic

i watched eps 1-3, skipped to 20 something, then to 56, and to 122-123. i couldnt get into to it. i tried many times, even watched the movies. i swear something is drawing me off of naruto. there could be 3 theories; one is the shitty ops and eds songs, the other is just naruto himself, and finally the random corny comedy.

I can't really think back to when I started watching it close to 4 years ago. The begining was decent, and some of the artwork seemed to change at certain key times. After this long it's simply strugling to keep afloat, yes.
Are you basing your assumptions that it's just for kids on the dub? Honestly, yes it is. In fact the uncut version shown in Japan is also targeted at the 10 to 12 year old male demographic - granted they had to do things to it to keep it at the same age group in the U.S. due to certain standards we seem to have on the TV that are rather puritan and backwards compared to most of the civilized world.
The reason an anime like Naruto (or most other anime for that matter) apeals to older individuals in the sub-form is due to an inherent "coolness" factor a foreign language seems to add to anime coupled with the liberties fansubbers take in translation in order to make the characters to sound more mature.

it started off ok. It was a bit on the childish side but seemed as though it might have actual story in it. Some really good videos were made using Naruto as source. Notably: "ninja of the night" and "whisper of the beast" (shut up beast haters it's a valid example.)
Eventually, having been disillusioned by the lame repetiive nature of the jokes, the lack of any 'real' character development and the truly STAGGERING number of filler episodes the people that started with it became hateful and bitter. In a way it's like those people that used to read the Robert Jordan 'wheel of time' books. They started off well, and then turned into a morass of endless characters that never go anywhere. Waiting for something to happen apparently is something the creators feel should take years of actual real time.
The american release, I haven't seen. I've heard that the voices are a travesty and make everyone sound like whiny bastards. Detecting the smell of a marketing advantage Naruto merchandise has flooded the market.
Some of my students are fond of it, so generally speaking I try to keep up to date with it so that I can answer dumb questions about Naruto characters.
