My sister tried to get me into it, but I never did.
makes me wonder if you'd like the manga in this case

not trying to be the naruto spokesman or anything, but i guess if you read manga at all, this one would be the preferable version imo though manga's no good for AMVs i hear, but one day.... [runs to patent idea]

it's the same story of course, but obviously without the worst of the filler, but i guess ppl could consider anything that isn't emphasis on main characters filler, and since this particular series puts a decent amount of emphasis on non-main characters, it's hard to tell what's filler from what's not

but i like to think it all works out in the end

The filler doesn't start until a good 100 episodes in, so i'm not quite getting exactly how this would be your reasoning from watching just a little of it.

You know I can't help but find Naruto to be a disapointment. It seems overly popular for the quality of the show. I've seen more then 230 different anime (yes I have no life) and Naruto is kind of lame. *holds up hands* now I'm not trying to piss off the die-hard fans, I'm not even saying its bad.... just that I see nothing special about it. I might like it better if it didn't take 10 episodes for something to happen. I've seen a fair amount of episodes, and while it seemed interesting at times I would lose interest when an event or fight would take a long time to resolve (usually because everyone had to spend half the time bragging or threatening each other). Kind of like DBZ, where a 10 minute fight takes a week of episodes to actually happen (but DBZ was never ment to be serious). Also the plot it kind of weak...or just to spread out. The idea of a guy no one believes in trying to be the best is nice and all, but its overdone. If they had found a new way to do it, or had put in more sub-plots great, but it just seems to be fighting and nothing else. Not all fighting shows are plotless (look at Yu Yu Hakusho and Flame Of Recca). I've heard several people mention the manga like its better.. if anyone can convince me it has more plot and character development then the show I might reconsider reading it. For now the verdict's still out. Anyway, I guess I'm rambling. Sorry. I just wanted to put my 2 cents in. Its nice to know I'm not the only person who dosen't think Naruto isn't the greatest thing since sliced bread.

don't you mean it looks like it's intended for an older audience?
like mid-teen instead of the intended early/pre-teen
I meant the American version seems intended for a younger audience, but you're right. It's the other way around.

it is better
the story moves quicker when you control the pace of your reading
(not that you should read faster than what's natural)

events don't take as long

but yeah, the story at core is still the same, but i haven't watched as much anime as you, so i guess i haven't gotten tired of this formula yet, as far as story, so far they've had the same over story throughout the entire series, they've had 'arcs' i guess you can say, but the story from the beginning is still being built upon, i keep up on the scanlations and the story is still progressing and naruto's more of a target than a hero

it's got a lot of repetitiveness to it, but i still find it keeping it fresh enough for me to continue anyway

lol does that have anything to do with the content.

The manga's basically the same as the anime minus the fillers

if im not mistaken, and im just a simple loser, wasent the question whats the deal with Naruto, not "lets disect the japanese and american censorship decisons and point out were they changed everything"? what exactly dose that have to do with the show being so big? just a thought

Naruto was big before it hit american cable, partly because of the compelling story and partly because of the promise of ninja action, not to mention it being one of the most accessible anime on the internet due to viral networking and dedicated fansite sites.
