You know it shouldn't matter if something is popular or not. Like what you like and don't like what you don't like. This is called thinking....for...yourself. I've seen more then 230 different anime, some have been popular mainstream stuff, and some have been so obscure most people have never heard of them. And I found out I like some of both. Let's be honest people, when we like a show we try to get our friends to watch it, we try to widen the fan base for the things we like. This is how something becomes popular in the first place (usually). If we don't like something we get annoyed when its all anyone seems to talk about. All of this is just opinion and perspective. About the only thing that isn't is it seems to be a solid fact that that no one likes to see people start actual fights over anime. And why should they? If I disagree with someone about an anime I expect to be able to discuss it with them like an adult, to see where they're comeing from. Maybe they'll change my mind, maybe I'll change theirs, or maybe we'll just agree to disagree. In any case, an opinion is never something to fight over, just look at my signature if you wanna know what I think of opinions. Anyway, my point is the idea of hating everything that's popular is just as silly as only liking things that are popular. My personal opinion is if its got good animation, good story, and good character development I usually like it at least a little bit. Even better if it has a new way of looking at old ideas or has totally new ideas. Oh, and before I forget, to all the poeple who get mad about the people who make money, remember without making money the shows can't continue to get produced. So even if the merchandising annoys the piss out of you, it serves a purpose. (I do feel your pain though). So in conclusion..... stand by what you like whether its popular or not, this is the truest expression of individuality.

Go, Key WiteWolf!
Merchandising is one thing, but what really annoys most people isn't the fact that "posters and keychains are the devil", but the goddamned filler episodes.
Just one little thing:

Stupid cut wannabe-good anime, I can not stand it. [ I ] would watch [an anime] with subtitles just to see the full [version] of any anime.
Alternatively...

Re: Why,,
Thank you, couldn't have said it better myself... DBZ GT? I'm 120% sure that Akira Toriyama didn't want it being released... He said no more beating a dead horse but it's time to move on...madbunny wrote:Because when something becomes popular marketing becomes a factor and as you stare at endless variations of the same damn thing all the time any small, tiny bit of joy that you once got from seeing it gets sucked out.Why would someone hate something because its popular?
NOOO WE CAN STILL MAKE MORE MONEY OFF THIS SERIES YOU GOOD FOR NOTHING AUTHOR!!!
What still irks me is that his designs are very disgusting to look at...
Think of it this way...
Which anime art would look good in a museum of snotty nosed rich dignified people?
Art from Toriyama or art from say...
Satoshi Urushihara (non-hentai if possible... )
Back to the quote the, I'm about 75% affected by that premise... I think the only series I've seen that's trying to milk some more but still 'works' would be Full Metal Panic...
With Fumoffu and 2nd Raid, the quality of the animation got better if anything and beautifully enough, the storyline and the characters led a continuity that anime like Inu Yasha, DBZ, Naruto, and Bleach lacked... [aka, shit for nothing fillers.... *cough*]
Although it's true anime is meant to entertain us, some of it is just there to take money from the stupid people... [just my opinion, nobody has to agree...]
It's like what my Martial Arts instructor says. There are two types of karate students [or any student for that matter]: those who come to learn, and those who pay the bills...
