Unfinished amv!!

Post by Polaris_Dd » Thu Aug 17, 2006 4:11 pm

I was just wondering... is it a usuall phenomenon for any amv editor to have started millions of amv but only have finished 5% of them or smthing??
i cant believe i am the only one!! i have started over 30 amv and finished only 5!! no kidding...
i mean is there a way of thinking that helps you finish the amv you get tired of making?? i really think i waste my time making some amv i will never finish.. cause even if i dont like them that much finally, someone in the internet might download them and love them...

btw since i am not an everyday viewer of the site's topics, i would aprecciate if the were no replies of this sort: "this post has been discussed before" or something : )
The first problem for all of us, men and women, is not to learn but to unlearn.

I believe that not every idea is a good idea. Sometimes a video concept will peter out because of lack of footage, or other reasons. Occasionally, if you like the song, you may find it fits a different anime than the one you originally wanted to pair it up to. It goes the opposite way too, you may have an anime you want to make an AMV to but the songs you have just don't quite fit.

I'm sure that everyone here has at least one unfinished video that they aren't currently working on.

And sometimes, you just have to farm out the labour to Australia. :P

I have started 32 serious videos since Feb of this year.

...... Not damn likely that they'll get finished
A shame too because a few of them kind of kick ass.

I currently have 4 sitting on my Hd and 2 with project files on DVD (I changed comps) that probably won't be done for a very long time due mostly to lack of time, but also to lack of interest to find the time to finish them. I have a very short attention span. I may go back and finish them, I might not. It's only natural. AMV making is a long and tedious process if you do it right. If you have a less than solid attention span, it is very easy to get burned out.

Of course, then there's the other 3 project file sitting on my comp that I HAVE to finish fairly soon for MEP's that I need to pull motivation out of my ass to do :?

My AMVs have like a 80% finished rate, i rarely don't finish a project but it happens. Not to say all of them are Uploaded to the org ... some are better off forgotten.

I always finish my videos, although it may take several years.

a simple way to remedy your situation...don't start new projects until you finish your current one.
if you think of a new amv idea let it sit for awhile, you may be able to plan a little more out in your mind (it seems that's the kind of editing turns out the best)
but it can get a little frustrating (like when a project takes a whole year...stupid life...stupid college, always getting in the way of my "real" online, editing and anime life)

Oh, wow, I thought it was just me with that problem.

It's gotten so bad this year that by the time I finish getting the footage prepped to make the new vid idea, I'm ready to delete the entire folder so I can start something else instead. I only have 6 partial videos that I've saved, but that's because I know I'll never come back to most of the ideas I lose interest in. And if I did come back, I'd want to start from scratch again. Ripping footage (picking scenes) is more fun to me than the actual editing, anyway. I've deleted a lot more potential videos than I've finished, and I've finished quite a few. The more I edit, the worse it gets. Eventually I'll give up and go do the same thing in a different hobby. I don't dwell on it. It's just the way some people are. Lack of self-dicipline, maybe. If it's not fun, it's not worth doing in my free time. ^_^;

5 out of 30 is not 5%. Sorry, just had to get that off my chest.

Most of the videos that I make, I have no actual intention of completing them. Sometimes I'll get an idea in my head and just start working with it. So, naturally most of them don't get finished. The ones that do get finished, a lot of time don't get polished up with the effects, titles or whatever else they need. Think trailers, or TV show openers.

I think that people who obsess on completing videos, or working on them to the point of not enjoying it anymore are losing site of the point of a hobby. If you're going to make videos with the sole purpose of winnning awards that's one thing, but it hardly qualifies as a hobby so much as an obsession.

If you want numbers.. I'd have to say that I complete about 2 or 3 for every ten that start. If I'm serious about it then I'll buy a box set for the series if it's available and replace the missing .vob files while keeping the project files intact if I'm gonna go back and finish it. Otherwise I just keep the betas and dump the rest.
