Wikipedia recently deleted an entry for live action anime movies that listed some examples.
Other live action movies (that weren't mentioned yet) that came out after the anime:
Lupin III: Strange Psycokenetic Strategy (Rupan Sansei: Nenriki Chin Sakusen)
Crying Freeman
Cromartie High School
City Hunter (Jackie Chan???, plus a Street Fighter scene  )
Honey and Clover
Prince of Tennis
Live action TV series that came after the anime:
Detective Conan (Case Closed)
Ace wo Nerae! (Aim for the Ace!)
And instances where the live action movie (or TV) came first:
Death Note (anime is set to premiere in October)
Ichi the Killer (has an Episode 0 OAV)
Lady Oscar (French film based on The Rose of Versailles manga, aka. La Rose de Versailles, the anime came after)
Witchblade (now this one is convoluted: based on an american comic book, which spawned a live action TV series in the US, then was re-printed in a manga format, then adapted into an original manga in Japan, shortly before the anime began airing on Japanese TV)
Also in development:
Battle Angel (Gunnm) (movie)
Witch Hunter Robin (TV)
this reminds me... I want to see the transformers movie.
I digress, I would like to see it tried. If the movie is gawdawful I'll simply ignore the fact that it was made.
Witch hunter Robin sounds like a good place to start. Not too much necessary in terms of special effects, just some flames from nowhere and a few other powers. Much cheaper than giant robots, and still cool enough to attract people who haven't seen the anime. A very good place to test the water.I would definately go to see it.
And, if some hollywood director F*%&'s it up, i don't care because i consider the movie to be the directors work; totally independant of the anime, and only capable of showing the directors perceptions of said anime. If those perceptions are similar to mine, I'll like the movie. if they are off-the-wall hollywood bull s*%&, i may not like it.
I have hope with regards to this subject. After all, they have done pretty well with some of the comic book movies. Spawn and Daredevil where great.

I woudn't think so. That show was all emo. It was like a display of emo.IronLynx wrote:Witch hunter Robin sounds like a good place to start.
It would be like watching the matrix without any fight scenes, or special effects, but lots of Keanu Reeves and Sarah Michelle Gellar staring longingly at each other.
Turns out that there are actually a lot more live action adaptations than I'd originally thought though. I might have to check them out.
Devil: you're right. I was including shows in my list, but it's a small enough genre that I think it's still valid.

i guess ur right, i only really remember the action parts of that show, and i saw it mentioned earlier. I just couldent think of anything else that could be done as a low/ mid budget test run. although, maby it would be better to go with a majour production in order to get people into the movie. I would love to see a well done cg version of Naruto's Nine-tails Chakera or a live action ka-me-ha-me-ha blast. I just don't think Dragonball hair is possable in live action without looking hilarous

I heard the transformers movie is going to be really good. Even though I'm not a fan of the show, it still sounds pretty cool.

I would actually have to agree on that, but you never know what technology can do these days.
