Getting serious here:

I feel the same as Toecutter.

You know the old saying, "Jesus, a hundred channels and there's nothing on"? This is true, just with digital cable change hundred to about three hundred. Every television show on these days are just boring as hell. I may be maimed for this, but I haven't insulted this community in a while, the simpsons are WAY overplayed, most prime time shows are stupid comidies like re-runs of Everybody Loves Raymond or Friends and these damn reality TV shows.

So what have I done, I go out and buy anime. Why. Because each one is something new and you can enjoy it longer. My collection started with one simple DVD: Cooler's Revenge. Since then, it has grown to just about 200 DVDs (Will be once my Anime Legends Escaflowne box set arrives). It provides that entertainment that the american televison world cannot create. Well they can, but the show is just like the one before it and will be cancelled in four weeks.

Close. They were *describing* things that were illegal, immoral, or impossible for a long time before anime. How many of them actually *showed* these things, though? (A rare few, I'll admit: monastaries were very good at making illuminated copies of any book they cared enough to keep. Some of those pictures they drew in them have to be seen to be believed.)

For that matter, how much of what those books describe is actually shown in the movies or TV shows made from them now?

More specifically and to the point, how easily could you set a page of exposition or prose to music and make it a music video?

Google "Liberi Fatali in Motion". The answer is "easier than you think".

WOW  Krisqo, You have over 200 DVD's?! I have like, 20.

Rorschach, you said it. I wish I could articulate my thoughts that well. You managed to fully explain why anime is light-years ahead of Jackass the movie "We're not worthy!" :D (I used jackass because that seems to be western cinemas crowning achievement)
btw there is no part of "reality television" that anyone should be proud of. In fact, "reality TV" is so bad it makes me ashamed to be American. :x [/u]

I shiver at that thought. But in all actuality, don't people get a kick out of watching other people makes jackasses out of themselves? Why do you think people watch COPS? They don't just to see the men in blue in action, they want to see STUPID PEOPLE doing STUPID THINGS. Jackass, Viva la Bam, these very best of the worst(instert something) are entertainment for the modern generation (which I am sad to be a part of). I look at it this way, when people ask me why I like anime and I tell them because it is better than anything on american television, they just laugh but I know they are probibly gonna go home and watch someting like "Pimp my Ride" or my favorite "Yo Mamma." WHY FUCKING MAKE A SHOW ABOUT MAKING YO MAMMA JOKES!? At least some anime makes us use our brains for once.

I'm gonna go watch some Elfen Lied to cool off.

None, as that would defeat the beauty of a book. Books don't utilise your senses in any direct way like video does. When you read a good book the audio and imagery are generated within your imagination. You have an ideal of what the world looks like, the face of its characters and there voices. You see and hear things, but aren't given the exact visual and audio properties of the world. In that sense books are a higher level of art as the reader interprets allot more of the "message" than a viewer does with video. Granted, some anime use image and audio in ways which allow the viewer to interpret a great deal themselves, but it isn't something inherent with the medium.

The GITS series doesn't compare to Nip/Tuck. Yeah some of the epps can get dark but in general there isn't that consistent feeling of things going wrong, getting worse, and all of it feeling so real.
I saw maybe three episodes of Nip/Tuck...it's freakin' ridiculous. From the little that l saw, it was easily up there with hardcore tentacle rape hentai on the "Watching this gives me weird, conflicting feelings" meter.
You're lucky... I've decided to let you live to see the day when I will rule the world.
