What do you think the Best Art/Animation in a TV series is?

Not a movie but a series. Stuff like Akira or Steamboy don't count.

I find that the art in Rahxephon is amazing from start to finish. It has some really nice animation throughout it as well. The entire thing was a visual feast. It was just beautiful to see. I hope to see more series like it.

For art alone I don't think of any better anime than Berserk. The art is just unbeat.

I don't care for the big eye, pointy nose art in anime.. I like it when anime steers away from being like the typical 80% of anime out there.. I love it when they try to make it more realistic.. not that I don't like cartoony anime or when it is cartoony at times.

Anyway, what do you think the best is?

I am personally wild over "Air"

Let's see...I'm also a fan of Cowboy Bebop, Chrono Crusade, and Wolfs Rain.

Ghost in the Shell SAC
this is the most realistic-looking animation I've seen (not including CG like Advent Children...but that doesn't count)

Most of the artwork in the series is more urban...so it's a bit hard to compare to a series like RahXephon, which has more nature scenery in it...but the artwork is still really good imo.

Air was also very nice

Ghost SAC was awesome, x2 for wolfs rain animation.

I liked Macross Zero, The melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya was understated but very well done.
Full Metal Panic: the second Raid.
Karas has some good stuff, but counts as CG.

I'm sure there's stuff I forgot.

Macross Plus had some outstanding animation to it.

Paranoia agent was well done but one that really stands out is blood the last vampire.

GITS ftw though. Nothing compares to that.

Paranoia agent really stands out.. and well blood the last vampire is a movie

GITS if you are referring to the series, has a lot of stall time.. sometimes there is such little frame rate and such little motion at times that I couldn't say as a whole that the animation is amazing. It has moments of nice animation though. The art is pretty nice but not as beautiful eye candy as other series.

I also want to mention El Hazard.. the background art is very pretty in that anime.. it's very colorful.

Vandread has some of the most beautifully CG animated space battles I ever seen for an anime series. Movies would be another story.
"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

actually you know what scratch that, Vandread is just all around freaking beautifully animated, seconds stage episodes 12 and 13 are so freaking gorgeous.

(Sorry about the double post, no edit button.)

It still does, even compared to todays shows. Especially the movie edition. (FYI do not get the R1 release of the movie edition, the dvd is a vhs transfer with hard subs, shame on the house of Manga Ent.)

I'm gonna put in my vote for Gankutsuou.

God if that thing doesn't make me splurt everytime I watch it. The texturing and fluidity in the animation is amazing. Usually, the animation in the first episode is the best the series is going to see for a while; in the case of Gankutsuou, it's actually some of the lowest-quality in the series - it just keeps getting better and better with each passing episode.

I'll even give my vote in for Naruto (yes, Naruto). Not all of the episodes, not even most of them, but the very few done by a specific animation studio. This studio animated the big fight between Sasuke and Naruto, and also did the sixth One Piece movie. You can always tell what's their's: the coloring is very pastel-like, and, like Genndy Tartakofski's shows, uses very slight, if any, outlines; to top it off, the animation is fluid and constantly moving. It's very stylized and great to watch.

If you're still confused about what I'm talking about, here's the clip of what I'm thinking of: http://www.metacafe.com/watch/96353/naruto_vs_sasuke/
