Voices of a Distant Star

Post by CrackTheSky » Thu Sep 21, 2006 12:23 am

I downloaded "Through Space, Through Time" a while ago, but I didn't really watch it until yesterday, and since then I've watched it like 15 times. Is this a good movie? I've read mixed reviews...it sure as hell looks pretty, though.

I'd recommend it.

Most people's problems with this show stem from either 1: the relative brevity of the feature, 2: the way it jumps in chunks of time (which is necessary to the plot), or 3: the relative low animation. Although 3 is iffy since the show was animated essentially by one person on a personal computer, which put into perspective is impressive. And, the plot is fairly shallow, but it is a fairly simple story.

There are quite a few good Voices of a Distant Star (Hoshi no Koe) AMVs available. If you want, I could link a few of my favorites.

Oh, I would like that very much. I've downloaded both of Koop's VoaDS AMVs, and they're both magnificent. Just...no spolier'd ones, I think I'm going to buy this.

Here are a few that I enjoyed (Spoiler links in red, but if you've seen Koopiskeva's Through Time, Through Space, the spoiler tagged ones don't show much more):

ShonenDizzyCow's My Fading Voice, Your Distant Heart - Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman (Moulin Rouge Soundtrack) - Come What May (not available on local, but you can get it from Umbrella Video's vault, thanks Minion and Orwell)

Illia Sadri's Message Through Time - Toshiro Masuda - Sadness And Sorrow

devilmaykickass' I Am Here - Spice Girls - Viva Forever

dokool's You're So Far Away - Mae - We're So Far Away

inthesto's Tear - Masashi Hamauzu - Laura's Theme

Knowname's Shine V1 - Vienna Teng - Shine (something different, read the info)

and finally my personal favorite (probably because of the song),

pumpkinchick28's Telephone Lines - Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) - Telephone Line

Wow, so many are red. But I'd recommend watching even the ones with spoiler tags now, since there isn't much to spoil, IMO. Okay, maybe ShonenDizzyCow's video has big spoilers. It would probably make you more curious about the anime. OR, you could rush out, get this anime, watch it ASAP, and then watch these AMVs. :P

It's incredible when you take into consideration that a single guy made the whole thing on his G3 Mac at home...

Even with that aside, it's one of the most beautiful and emotional animated films I've ever seen, even if it only clocks in at about 30 minutes. I strongly recommend it.

I just came in during the last half of it; it's good to watch if you want to feel sad.

An excellent sci-fi short story, the romance is very touching, and the reality of time and space communication is interesting.

If you enjoyed "Voices", try "The Place Promised in our Early Days". It's done by the same people. It's a bit longer and deeper into the sci-fi background. The artwork is much the same, excellent, and the longer more involved story is nice.
Where did you say I'm going?.... And what am I doing in a handbasket?

Haha, thanks Willen, I'll be sure to check most of those out.

And I was going to ask about The Place Promised In Our Early Days as well, because I knew it was by the same guy/people. I'm definitely going to buy these movies. Thanks for all your input!
