not announcing amvs?
Hey guys, I noticed that a lot of the newest vids on the block are never announced in the amv announcement forum. Why not? Give yourself a chance I say. What does everyone else think?

I think it's more of a case of I made this so it's mine for those who wish to view it, while at the same time it's not one of my better videos so I'd rather not draw too much attention to it. If I draw attention to it then chances are the rating will be lower cause nonfans of the series I used or non fans of the music I used will DL just to see it.
If you let it come out and not advertise it the only ones who are gonna find it are those who like the series or song you used and they are usually nicer when rating your video.

It's funny that you should bring this up, because the last video in my signature is just such a case. I saw it as the 'new vid on the block,' but it was never announced in the forums. It's a really fun, creative video that probably would have gotten a lot of good feedback had it been announced, but now it's just going to fall into the masses of Azumanga Daioh videos. That's why I decided to pimp it. I was hoping that someone might see what I saw and give it a chance.

I like this more than a hosted crappy amv... Everybody should know what he shows to others and how much he uses bandwith of the site. This just costs a lot of money! If you host your first video I say: "Yes why not show it to us..."
But I think there are to many people spending only 4 hours for one video and host every shit. There are people hosting every two weeks amvs, but why?
I´ve waited a long time before I published my first amv. I waited so long to say than: "Yeah... thats something that you can show to others and yes it is still crapy, but not soooo.... much." (and it is hosted on an other server ^^')
You can find me on YT under "Bauzi514". Subscribe to never miss my AMV releases.

A lot of people don't know crap about the forums and don't care to know, some don't even know what a forum is.
That might be why. What is the percentage of members that don't know about the forum? I would guess a lot of them. I was one them till late 2003. I like less clutter anyways in the announcement forum though really.

It could also be that they don't care (much) or don't know (much) about the forums. Or maybe they're not regular visitors of the Org, and just use it to upload/download amvs. To me it seems the announcement forum is used by those who uses the org on a daily basis and/or uses the org for more than uploading/downloading i.e forums/journals/opinionating and the such. And what x_rex said. But something like that

the forum is not the .org
Look at the regulars, and you'll see the same names pop up over and over and over. Mine for example, you've probably seen a few times.
Now, look at the number of members on the .org
* Members 594746
* Videos 101302
* Creators 35420
* Direct DLs 5046
* Indirect DLs 3760
* Local DLs 60130
You'll notice right away, that you're not seeing 594,000 people, or even 35,000 people posting on the forums. Even if you account for non-active accounts, that's a lot of people.

I don't usually announce videos because a) I'm too lazy or b) people find my videos by chance anyways. I mean, I get a lot of hits on my profile because of my banner count, and that's one way I get hits on videos, but I'm just not big on announcing my own stuff. Plus, if EVERYONE announced a new amv every time it came out, there would be a lot of new threads to sort through to look at the new ones o.O
I usually look at amv announcements when there is a new MEP or something.
