I rip them from games. The other way is to record them with a capture card

You can record xbox games with a capture card.
Its possible to rip gamecube game but it might be easier to use a capter card for that too.

when i did it i used game platform ->vcr->camcorder->firewire then captured on the pc.

but i know have DViCO FusionHDTV Tuner and could easily just use its ports to connect a device directly to the PC.

You could also buy the program Fraps. (I think it works for particular games though)...I use it for capturing demos of 3d shooter games/warcraft/starcraft etc. and it does a marvelous job provided you have a fast machine and lots of storage space.

(for call of duty for example...I take a demo in the game using the game's built in demo recorder, that way I don't lag while actually playing...then I use call of duty in windowed mode (640x480) and play the demo back, using fraps to capture an avi of it.)

I dunno if this'll work for visual novels/games. Your best bet there is to get at the original content of the game if you're making a MAD. (should be able to just view it off the mad cd, or extract it if it's compressed)

Id try getting a registered version of Fraps, the unregistered version has that pesky FRAPS watermark on it... In addition, FRAPS only works in full screen games, and it even works in Windows Movie Maker (Why you would want to record that is beyond me)

while doing some searching i found one tool that can read files from xbox games
boXplorer wrote:boXplorer is a file browser for Xbox which allows you to directly browse files and folders on the Xbox harddisk and DVD drive. It can also view Xbox video media files (*.WMV) and launch other application or games (*.XBE files).
Here is a link to it

I haven't tried it yet so i don't know how good it works.
