I kind of understand the fraps thing, but how can I hook up my Gamecube (or even my N64) to my computer to record the footage? Maybe I missed something. I tried looking at the guides, but there's nothing in there for N64s or Gamecubes, anyway. I have a couple great ideas mapped out for AMVs using Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, but I don't know how to get the footage for it.

You can connect your gamecube or N64 to your computer with a capture card. Thats probally the best way for them. Gamecube games can be ripped but you have to do that with a Serial Link cable and its more complicated. For N64 it is possible to record them using a video capture program while running them in a emulator.

i use giga pocket and can get any footage i want with it, i'm not sure if that ties in with a capture card or not, but i do have to play the game to get what i want.

i captured about all of the clips from kingdom hearts 2 and all from the first that way, including some boss battles [mostly bettween the 13th order] it gets tiresome and time consuming but it's the best i can do so far.

Thanks for the fast reply. Well, I don't have a capture card and I can't afford one at the moment. . . (Life is expensive, even when you don't have a hobby.) How much is that serial cable and where can I find one? I don't mind complicated if someone can at least tell me what to do. I'm mostly looking for the least expensive way to do things.

lol

you are probally gonna want to save up for a capture card instead
The stuff you need for this cost money too and requires alot more work ^^;;

First your gamecube must be modded with Viper GC (Its currently out of stock now)
http://www.divineo.com/cgi-bin/div-us/dd-gc-vipextr

That is how the system connects to your computer with through the parallel port
You can find a parallel cable at any computer hardware store

Here are the instructions to install the mod.

Well, thanks for the advice. Maybe I'll pitch in with one of my friends who's savng up for a capture card and we can share or something. Ah, well, I'll figure something out that won't hurt my budget too much. It's nothing that can't wait, anyway (I have something like 18 other ideas I can work on now, anyway, once I get the chance.) Thanks again for the help.
