Pick your pleasure
I've noticed something about fight scenes. The longer a fight scene drags on, the less amount of effort is put into making the fight look good. Also certain fights have more effort put into them because of their importance. But generally the longer the fight the worse the animation gets.
So what do you prefer? Do you like those fight scenes that are short but show awsome movement and action in a 5 minute or less fight clip.
Or do you like the mediocre animation with a more dragged out fight that spans over a larger area?

Depends on the kind of fight, I guess. Sometimes tension is good. It's very variable. Although I suppose tension is sort of an opposite of action; in which case yes, I prefer action to be brief but pretty.
The best combination, for me, is the traditional dramatic periods of tension/buildup followed by brief but highly visual moments of action.

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

I want a fight to be a fight, not a freudian display of shounen-ai as in bleach, naruto, etc.

I LOVE THAT FIGHT
I like fights that have precision, they're not all about examining your enemy, but pure concentration, and a good layout battle, not a big wide open space where they run down the fence one on each side, then slide down the ropes clangin swords like monkeys and sticks
those kind of scenes just frustrate me
"WHAT THE F*** ARE YOU SWING'IN AT? THE OTHER GUYS SWORD????"

Everything came from nothing, therefore everything is nothing.
There's nothing to worry about.

I far prefer the shorter fights myself. One, longer ones tend to have that "WTF why do I have to wait another week" thing going on (sometimes for months at a time) and often they just get tiresome. It also kills any rewatchability, for me at least. Although I enjoyed DBZ the first time I watched it, the only episodes I could possibly rewatch are fillers, and the same goes for other shows with long 'battles'.
And also, the joy of watching a fight scene for me is tied directly to how well it's animated--it's far better to see a few well-executed moves than a bunch of repetitive punching and blocking. A long, badly-drawn fight scene might be interesting from a story-line POV, but it's the shorter, well-drawn ones that make you go "Oh WOW" and that I like to rewatch.

Some of the best animations I've seen in battles are in long ones. Some long fights have great animation.. it depends on the show. Short battles does not equal better animation. The Naruto episodes that had long battles are the ones with more focus on the animation. The short ones generally have less time spent on them it seems.
Some of the more enjoyable battles I've seen in anime are long ones. I've seen a lot of good short ones too. So I guess it all depends on the battle and who is fighting. So no preference here buddy.. it all depends. Short battles could be great and so could long battles.

I like short fights, but not too short where it feels like you were cheated because of who was fighting.
FMA: Armstrong against Roa(bull guy), lasted about a minute and a half, i felt cheated on that just like when he fought Izumi, that could have at least been shown completley.
sometimes though a 5min+ fight isn't bad, like if the enemy is more pretty badass and need those few extra minutes.
