So, basically, no one will come after you for using their AMVs as long as you make it impossible to tell that you used their AMVs. (Specifically.)

... Oddly, I think I actually agree with that position.

www.netflix.com

You can probably get a friend to email you a free trial offer, or just sign up for one. Assloads of DVDs.

DVD sourced vids are most likely to have DVD quality.

So pretty much drama vids only, I guess. And even then, that's iffy...my in-progress drama vid significantly tweaks the coloring of nearly every clip...

Seconded. My last half-decent video was made partially with rips from rented DVDs, although I bought the series afterward.

Thing is, man, what you are displaying here - "I want it, so I deserve it, give it to me now now now" - is what's known as an entitlement complex. It tends to piss people off. Not just here, but a lot of places in life.

Make videos with what you have. If you don't have the source yet, file that idea away for later and make something else. I started out with game videos for that exact reason. Since I still don't have a very big collection, I have a text file of all of my workable ideas and what I still need to buy in order to make them. (Idea 1, I have everything... idea 2, I need to buy the CD... idea 3, I need the second half of the series plus the CD... etc.)

The last project I started had been in the back of my head for three years, unmade, because I didn't have the DVDs yet. Three fricking years. And I didn't whine about it or expect to steal other people's clips.

Well, amv ethics do come to mind, but I will say this...

I highly disagree with that downloaded anime footage schpeal... Some really good quality amvs came from source that wasn't great at all...

Digisubs maybe all you've got to work with. [especially since every digisub amv I made was UNLICENSED at their time of making and it was impossible to 'easily' get HD footage]

Seeing from the effort itself, I think they all turned out very well... If you've got little to work with, then by damn work your ass off to make it beautiful...

As far as grabbing footage from other amvs goes, good luck... Chances of you doing it without people going become very high... I say get what you can get [unlicensed mind you] and work with those...

If all people care about is amv footage quality, then well, anyone who uses anime dvds can make a good quality amv right? [which to the smart eye is obviously false since the editing effort can outweigh the ugly quality footage... Tarzan and Su come to mind, perfect amv in my eyes with pixels for footage]

lol that probably possible only if u didn't use their edited clips because the video effects would be obvious. i did thought once of using an amv clips because, they're mostly scenes that i want from that anime and were long and unedited! doesn't it save me from slicing clips from the anime? and if i did, but add in video effects and transistions with different sequence and song, would that call stealing? okay.. maybe i stole the creator's time and effort for slicing and compiling the clips for me =x

anyway i doubt i'd do this because its against my morals. haha

to me, it's not just about using my cuts, transitions, effects.
why should i let someone use the footage that i took the time to prepare?
