Interesting thought karuido:
Ray may be innocent, but with Light's ambition to purge the world of criminals, he wont' allow his work to be interfered with. thus anybody trying to stop him is a hindrace to the world's rebirth. Also with the shinigami eyes, it is of course logical that Light should turn them down. His character is one that manipulates others to suit his ends and he is hardly self-sacrificing. You guys will just have to wait and see how things pan out.... ^_~

Yes, you, shush!

I'm thoroughly enjoying it so far, and it's quite an intelligent series... I need something like this when I'm also watching something like Sumomo mo Momo mo.

a spoiler box isn't enough to not spoil the anime when the manga's been out so long, and 50% of the deathnote fans have read it

i wouldn't mind if only one DN fan in the world hadn't read the manga by now. That still wouldn't make me spoil it for them for any reason.

When the series was first aired I ran out to read the manga as fast as humanly possible - the show looked like it had so much promise and there was no way I was going to be able to wait a year to see how everything was going to end.

Though, unfortunately, now that I've read it all I'm less excited to see each week's episode. I'm looking forward to how they do certain parts of the story, but all in all it probably would have been enjoyed more if I'd been able to restrain myself. It's also tough to see people hypothesize about the results of some of the character's actions when I know what's going to happen. Mostly, I just bite my tongue. ^^ As much as I liked the story, I'm not recommending my friends read ahead because of the way it spoils the climaxes.

I love finding new titles, and finding a show as it's aired is fun, but I really adore marathon-watching the series after all the episodes are available for download. The story is more engaging and the worst part of the waiting is done away with.

With that said, Death Note has promise. I think it has the ability to become another modern classic like GitS and FMA.

reikah: i know what you mean. for me the anime is less exciting from a plot perspective. but since i read the first chapter of death note i've wondered about AMVing it, and now that i've seen the effort they have put into the anime, it's a distinct possibility.

I still did have a hell of a lot of suspense though; i started reading the manga about halfway through it's release, so i quickly caught up to the manga as it began to draw to a close. So you could say since i had to wait for a new chapter each week then it was even more suspenseful for me :D . To top it off i used to be a part of the townl.com forums (a large DN fan base) so there were fan-clubs, postulations and predictions flying about all over the place. It certainly ended up being a dramatic close for me.

i also know what you mean about hearing people hypothesize about possibilities, and anytime they get close to the real thing it makes you feel uneasy.
