From the creators of the Matrix comes... SPEED RACER!?

Post by EmilLang1000 » Wed Nov 01, 2006 7:55 pm

You heard right

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/article.php?id=9730

According to ANN, The Wacholwski Bros. have written and will direct a live-action Speed Racer movie.

So now, this makes 4 animes being turned into Hollywood movies for certain: Battle Angel, Monster, Transformers, and now Speed Racer. Suddenly the posibility of the Eva movies coming out in our lifetime seems a little bit more tangible.

And, if the anime mag I read in the store the other week (what was it, Anime Informer?) can be trusted, there's also Afro Samurai, Gonzo's latest property that they're trying to turn into a hit on both sides of the lake pretty much simultaneously... and as the article went, Samuel L. Jackson will ALSO be playing Afro in the movie.

The question is...how much do we really want that?

I just hope Hollywood doesn't dig thier claws into too many anime. That would just cheapen the whole experiance.

I don't really know. If they gave those animes the "X-Men I/II treatment," then it'd be okay. Come on. Who DOESN'T want to see a live action Utena?

I meant GOOD live action Utena... come on... you should no by now that the Japanese can't make a live action movie for their lives unless it's a horror movie or it's directed by Kurosawa.

MONSTER might not be a bad flick, the show kinda dragged on, but the premise was good. I can't see speed Racer being all that fun to watch, and I have read the comics on top of seeing the anime... :(
...the problem I see a lot is that many good amv makers think they suck, and many bad amv makers think they're good.
I've seen it happen, man! I've SEEN IT!..

Just so you know the director of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon has also been given the green light to produce and direct the live action Blood: The Last Vampire movie. It was announced in last months Anime Insider.
