Vets: Why did you quit?
Ran out of free time.

I could see the first reason but the second reason doesn't cutt it.
Who said you had to meet a "standard" to do something you enjoy? You must not of enjoyed doing it enough to keep at it then.
My amv's are probably not up to par with others, but because of that I'm learning and taking in as much as I can to increase my abilities. Why? Simply because it's a hobby and for that reason I want to be better at it. In the end I create amv's that I like and enjoyed making. You don't have to reach a standard just to please others.
As for the time issue, yeah... College + full time = Low free time. Seeing as how editing 30 frames these days takes like an hour amv's take forever to make. OY. I still do it for fun though. No plans to quit anytime soon. Started at the age of 14 (first vid in profile). It sucks seriously, but my progression prooves the hobby is worth it to keep going and learn more.

"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

I got a job, got pre-occupied with other things.
Now that I'm back, I found myself being caught off-guard by Pyle's reason number two.
Honestly, I hate where the AMVs these days are going. I dislike all the effects. Inf act, half of the new "cool" AMVs probably would've been better without half of their AE filtering. In one video, Meri and Mike's Boulevard of Broken Dreams, I think a piece of that video was simply ruined because of AE tinkering.
I know I don't have to go with the 'standard' but let's face it, AMVing just isn't as fun if you don't get noticed.
So in that case, I also lack motivation.

Yes more feedback would be nice for everyone. Just to show: Your vid was not AE, but I licked it anyway. I mean everybody diserverd for a specific effort to get a comment and if it is possible somtehing more, than the simpel "Awesome"
I always was a big fan of SSJVegeta17´s DBZ amvs. I always loved them, because of the simpel, but also high quality way they where made. That´s way I´m also a fan of Tim Stair´s stuff (for those who don´t know: Fluxmeister NHMK).
I don´t know why SSJVegeta quited, but it simply makes an empty hole of my taste, that nobody filled up already.

I wonder if dcdeveloperx and ssjvegita0609 are still making videos. Those were some of the best 'simple' videos ever.
But back to the topic at hand, there are some videos that I admire, the technique beat series for example. I think effects utilized in tasteful ways can be done pretty awesomely. Or a video based entirely on effects, but done in a MAD style(like technique beats) can be good.
But if you make a serious video and then you slap it through AE for no apparent reason, which seems to be the new standard, it gets annoying. And it pushes 'simple' videos below the bar in comparison.
"What? No fancy stroke shadow thing? UNCOOL!" Of course it's not that pronounced, but I'm sure you catch my drift, here.
Not to mention where we've all gone in terms of visual and audio quality. If you don't have a container format that's not avi and mp4 you lose half of your audience, just because they assume your videos are gonna suck editing-wise, too. And while that's a valid assumption in most cases when looking through super searches and new vid on the block, it may not be for AMV Announcements or older editors.
But at the same time, we're sort of in a conflicting era right now of effects and AE-based editing, superior quality, and youtube.
On Youtube you can have some of the great stuff on the .org, but without the quality. On the .org you can have it all. On youtube you get fast load times, on the .org.. Only if you're downloading from someone with a fast server.
But what it really equates to in most people minds is that .org > Youtube, where the .org has superior quality and editing and youtube has ignorance noobs using pirated footage.
Which leaves some of the more 'conventional' editors in an in-between state that may not be horrible to watch or deal with, but the AMVs are considered boring enough to not bother with, since they simply can't compete with newer, AE/effects-based video.
Does this take away my hobby? No, I do make AMVs for myself, and I will continue to do so.
Does it take away my motivation? Yes. It does because anyone would naturally want to be credited and acclaimed or at least praised for their good work. Hell, in some cases even a bad review is something good to have because it means you're getting attention.
We came to the .org because we wanted ot be part of this really cool community where we showed off our AMVs to other people and advance our skills.
And if nobody wants ot watch your videos, then you're being denied a few aspects of the .org you came here for.
Afterall, if everyone really made AMVs for themselves and themselves only, we wouldn't even have the .org.
So it's kind of pointless in using "but you should make AMVs for yourself" as an argument.
... Sorry if this doesn't make sense, I haven't gone to bed yet.

I protest! This is more than ok for me, because you get better quality with XviD and h.264 and also a lower flesize. That is better for the user and the server here. It is also a matter of effort you put into compression and if you use h.264 you set signs, that you want to get better and want to try out newer things. Not to mention where we've all gone in terms of visual and audio quality. ssjvegita0609 is posting often around in the forum. Keep your eyes open.
Exactly. I think the same way about hostachel. Here are also a lot of people who doesn´t want to buy cds and dvds, but there are much more people who already do it and that is ok!But what it really equates to in most people minds is that .org > hosatchel, where the .org has superior quality and editing and hosatchel has ignorance noobs using pirated footage.

Since when are you a vet, Pyle? Did you receive the official membership card?
SQ, I lurk around the forums still, but haven't made a full video in about a year and a half. I've "retired" because I've been busy pursuing other interests and college stuff. I'm probably not down for the count yet, though, and technically I'm in the second Tool project MEP. So yeah, expect to see other stuff from me at some point.
P.S. Dcd still makes vids from time to time I think, but he's also been busy with life and such.
The best effects are the ones you don't notice.
