Good thriller/horror anime

Post by Kadaj » Mon Nov 13, 2006 12:28 am

I'm starting to chase up some footage for a thriller/horror themed metal amv, and i don't know that many anime of that genre myself, so best thing i thought would be to ask around and see what's about 8-) .

The kind of thing i am after should ideally; be licensed or on dvd (just for the sake of decent quality, but not a necessity), have decent animation quality, contain at least moderate levels of horror/gore/violence, be somewhat likeable as a movie/series (i'm not gonna watch any garabage just for the sake of the amv :wink: ).

Anime I already plan to use are;

Death Note
Blood: The last vampire
Akira
Elfen Lied
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust

any other suggestions?

Boogiepop Phantom is the only anime that has ever striked me as being worthy of considered under anime horror. Mainly because its so random and freaky.
"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

Mermaid Scar. You'd think that an anime based off of a Rumiko Takahashi story would be funny or happy, but... damn. That's all I'll say.

Seconding Boogiepop Phantom, perhaps one of the most rewatchable anime series I've ever seen. And the novels are also excellent, so far (I'm reading them as Seven Seas releases them over here; yay for Borders getting each one 6 months before everyone else!)

I would recommend Le Portrait de Petite Cossette. If that's not good material for a horror AMV, I don't know what is.
