If you are writing a spoiler based on the manga, then please use tags like this....

If I remember correctly, Light still doesn't regain his memory up until the point when he kills the guy in the group with the Note. Before that, they "conned" the smart, long-haired Bishie member of the group to help them out. L and Light figured out who had the note through their own deduction skills.

Damn, and Naomi was THIS close if it weren't for Light's sly talking. It was quite depressing though.
